Do you like this cd? I picked it up for 23 bucks, and I decided it was a good investment, rather than downloading. The tracks here are his hardest, rawest stuff I've heard. . . just insane. . . . but I admit that at first I didn't like most of the shit off this cd. . . now I love it though. What do the rest of you think of it? |

i got it on vinyl for xmas 2000 i feel it sounds more harsh and raw on vinyl compared to the cd version tamphex! fucking insane shit!!!!! |

Yes of course. . . but my personal favourites are Isopropranol and Flaphead. Flaphead is so cool, that pounding, banging, unbelievably cheesy drum beat over that quirky percussion!! |

Deathsmith,Classics was a good investment,personally,like the whole cd...Plus you will always help the artist by buying the cds...I really hate to download music,unless is those hard to find,then is mp3...But I love what RDJ does too much so I buy his cds and some old vinyls.....=) |

classics was re-released by warp last year, it should be about $11 especially if you order it online |

I love this album... You gotta remember it's these tunes that really put Aphex on the map...there was a lot of Hard n Fast Techno around at that time but no-one really explorered that sound as thoroughly & with such a def touch, as AFX.... Not a dud on there...other techno people might have put out one or 2 good tracks but no-one really captured the raw rush of those days as AFX... ABB1 was a quirky little tune when it came out, used to hear it so much at clubs n raves and it just seemed to put people in some weird space no other tune could. Everyone else was banging nails into your ears & that was it....finding out the same guy was responsible for that as well as Didge & those others immediately made me recognise that there was so much more to the guy....the eventual release of SAWI confirmed his talents at both ends of the spectrum... Shit..I've got on a bit here...You might have guessed I like it...:).. |

Well said, jand. I was just thinking about how RDJ's talent is spread over such a large spectrum of music. But which cd should I buy first, Druqks or Classics? |

mmm...now that is tricky... If you go for Drukqs then you won't hear much 4 on the floor mad mad techno...but you will hear a good range of stuff from simplistic piano works to ambient(ish)electro-acoustic pieces to mad mad drillNBass workouts... Classics is, I think, more limited...there's very little except hard techno workouts (with perhaps ABB1 presenting his gentler, more ambient side)... Given the choice, I'd go for Drukqs...it's a far more mature work with a lot more range....you may not like it all but the bits you do like, you'll love to death... hope this helps...music's so personal and AFX's range is so wide, it's very tricky to pick just one of his albums to recommend... |
