Will someone explain to me what FTP is? I've heard about
it, it's been mentioned on this board... but I don't know
what it is.

*ashamed

Anyone want to enlighten me?

It's just a protocol from transferring files from machine to
machine.

It's been around forever - it was one of the first tools
invented for use on the Internet.

File
Transfer
Process

Basicly its like a server ony our computer..... I have one
on my computer.... the adress to the server is your
personal/computers IP adress, everyone in the world is
different. You set up a server on your computer and allocate
which part of your computer you want to be able to "share".
Then you can give people your IP adress and share that way,
its like a simpler version of soulseek or morphues or
something like that. Get me? I have a FTP site of my own and
it has 100's of albums on it. Hardly anyone here uses FTP to
trade.. I wish more did cause Id be in heaven! You can
easily acess my FTP site with a simple small little program,
thats freeware on the net....

"file transfer protocol", but close enough. :)

I think one reason you don't see FTP used quite so much now
is because the way it was designed, it doesn't behave very
well with firewalls, which are standard practice these days.
