yea especially with robin playing the ukelele part live, usually on treated electric guitar (like when i saw nin) but on the dvd he plays an actual ukelele. i'm glad no one sings the lyrics live, it'd sound silly. love the video!

i only ask cos the nin version actually doesn't sound like the debussy "original" at all; besides the title i think trent just nicked a technique, not a melody.

of course, the cello solo in "even deeper" is supposedly lifted from a debussy piece. unfortunately i lost my nin "stolen riffs"/samples text file when my hd crashed in '00 and i can't remember which piece it was :(

yea, i don't think trent ripped much off the orginal with that exception.
unlike crystal JAPAN.....ehhehe
i can't think specifically which debussy piece the cello might have come from......i'd have to bring out the debussy cd's i have and compare. i can't think of anything right now.

i used to be a pro cellist back in dallas...trent's cello work is like his drum programming...if you know better then it's weak...
i once tried making a project where every single sound was my cello, but then i'd use various effects, and asdr envelopes to make the sounds sound more like drums, etc... it went well, until i had to move like 20 times in a month, and somehow broke my bridge, and lost the HD...
if i still had more time (i have to move again around the 1st of july) i'd probably re-start playing around with that...
anyways, with trent...i wish that he'd re-release the fragile with all the original tracks...i've found tapes, and other sources with all these snippets that were cut out of the cd release...and let's not forget the obvious tracks on still, and TTA, the WITT singles, and the fragile vinal. but we all know that'll never happen...
btw...i found a great ripp of "appendage" which is suposed to be inculded in "please" on soulseek...it sounds like it was cut from the latter of the original...

that cello project sounds REALLY interesting! i really hope you can re-record some of that, i'd love to hear it.
as for trent, i give him points for exploring stringed instruments besides guitars. i like what he put on the album.
where did you find "tapes"? i thought all there shit was digital. someone must've put it to tape. please tell me about what you've heard, i'm a diehard nin fan.
appendage is old tho, it was released on the cassette tape version of the fragile (same day as the cd version). i like it. did you know "slipping away" isn't actually a remix of "into the void" but was originally part of it, a continuation of sorts that was deemed too long for the album?

the tape is what ur talking about...i thought that the tape was rare...but i have a really great ripp of it in 192 kps mp3 that i got off of slsk...
i didn't know that about into the void...it sounds so much like a remix though...infact i'm pretty damn sure it's a remix...because all the vox are sampled from the original...it's just the style of the track that just sounds so much like a remix...expecially a trent remix...soo much nord lead synth...
about instruments, trent is extreamly famous for using instruments and making them sound unreconizable w/ processed effects and what not...he's been doing this since broken...also acroding the web "e-mix" version of no you don't some of the intro sound of the track are processed oboes.

well, trent said in an interview that it was a continuation, but he could've sampled his own voice and tweaked it out.
trent's a genius, no doubt about it.
but tell me about these "tapes and other sources" of unreleased nin music? how'd you come across that?

the appendage song i got is from soulseek, and was ripped from a tape...acording to u the fragile tape release...
i've listened to tapes that were suposedly copied from various sources from the data banks from the stuff the NIN crew sold on e-bay...a bunch of samples/loops/and sequences ranging from .1 secs to 5 mins...
i've also been told by the guy who had the tape that soem of the stuff was leaked out by some of the nin programmers...a likely story, but the sounds are so cleanly ripped that i know that the'ere no way to ripp these from the original releases...
i only know this guy at the raves here in seattle, he lives to far to hang out with at a reg basis...so we usually stumble into each other at the raves while e'ed up, and chat w/ eath other and our crews in his converted van...
i can ask him again where he got it...but i think he said that he copied it from a friend who doesnt' have a cd-rw so they had to dub it to tape...
i see him this sat if i can jack my mom's old car to sneek out to this rave...hehehe

i'll see what i can find out...but i dont' know how to ripp from tapes...i think i can figure it out...
remember when nin cleared out mass stuff from the studio on ebay? that's what's a lot of the stuff is suposed to be from...
btw, do you know if any tapeworm stuff is leaked? what about those live tracks maynard played w/ apc? what were the titles of those?

the only things they sold were keyboards and other equip, not like they were selling demos or anything
no tapeworm anything is leaked, but the song "vacant" performed live by apc IS a tapeworm song. maynard wrote the verses, trent wrote the choruses, danny lohner wrote the riff, charlie clouser reworked the original recording. nothing else related to tapeworm has been leaked, tho it's known that 15+ demos exist.

well, ppl have released whole samples cd's of their abulms before...and i totally agree with the philosophy...if someone were to sample me (and aslong as i get credit/royalties) go right ahead! i picture it as my offspring mating with other offspring to produce the new sound/track...
i really doubt that this is what the nin ppl were thinking, but it's my understanding that they didn't care and just wanted the money, fast!
