maybe he's poor. and maybe he wouldn't buy the albums anyway. i don't buy albums necessarly to support the artist, i just feel more like I own the music that way + it sounds better than mp3's IMO. and i do it for collectability too. |

If he was poor, he would most likely be on a 56k connex. Since no one on 56k would bother to que up all that d/l with the risk that it would disconnet, we can deduce he is most likely on broadband. Knowing broadband ain't cheap, we can therefor surmise he isn't really poor, and lord knows he has a computer also. And for what it's worth, not all poor people steal just becuase they can't buy things they desire. On that level, I'll call thief. Why d/l a whole album? D/l a few songs from it, if you enjoy it, go out and buy it. Ain't poor, just a crook. |

But what if he can honestly say he wouldn't buy it, even if it wasn't available to download? What is bad about theft is depriving someone of something that is theirs. If he wasn't going to buy it, he hasn't deprived anyone of anything. This notion that you shouldn't have something just because you haven't paid for it lacks insight. I copy most PC games, because I enjoy them, but not enough to warrant buying them. However, I knew I would play GTA 3 enough that I couldn't honestly say I wouldn't have bought it if it wasn't available for download. I see this as perfectly moral behaviour. |

Well spoken, Ceri! I agree with you on that completely. I download and buy a lot of records. The last thing I need is more music, but I go through CD-R's like nobody's business. :) |

I started buying albums again 2 months ago.(thanks for your influence!!!) I forgot how good it feels to buy a new album,or an album I wanted,but never bought,cos I had the mp3's. wel,now I know there is a difference between a real album or a copy. The real album seems to sound better. |

Also I find that downloading entire albums can be somewhat inconvenient, at least when you are using Audiogalaxy, because one must make sure all the tracks are the write time, and one must find the right version, and it's pretty unconventional shit. . . I've only downloaded about 10 entire cd's total. . . And also you can't download dj mixes, now can you? At least I don't think you could; it would be one hell of a hassle to find the right mixed version of the song from the dj mix, so I buy or burn (from a library's copy) all my dj mixes. |

I don't have any friends that listen to electronica so I have to depend on my public library's cd collection, which does not hold as many electronica titles as I'd like it too. |

Ceri, I totally agree with you, especially with PC games. The difference is, you need to download the entire file of a PC game to play it, even if you would never buy it. With an album, maybe you only download one song, fine, you don't really like that album. But if you download the entire album, you are saying you plan to listen to the whole thing. You can preview discs at music stores, listen to samplers, but when you d/l the entire album, maybe burn it to a CD, even if you only listen to one song, you have taken a valuable album sale away for the artist. Most people wouldn't d/l an entire album for only one catchy song, usually the entire album is d/l to avoid paying the (admittedly high) CD cost. |

yeah, i oft wonder what CD sales would be like if discs were $10-12 instead of $15-17, I'd buy more, that's for sure, and yes, I understand the profit potential of a $15 disc compared to a $10...... |

Hey Spoonz, I've downloaded a shitload of stuff from you the past two days. You've got a decent connection, so I had to. :-) I'm on an MP3 downloading binge, too. Cleared out some harddrive space, and I'm getting more memory soon... my MP3 collection is growing at evil money sucking speeds. |
