Don't you think that the third track on Amnesiac sounds
like it could be on Geogaddi? Same sound style.

it's really not in any form of disrespect

the track sounds awful (no its not an opinion the track is
actually awful) - so of course it belongs on geogaddi. or
under a pile of dead kangaroo

Anyone who thinks otherwise should be shot.

before yous guys chew my ass out, you have to understand why
i like it. i have to say it is a really artfully done piece.
sure sure, radiohead's first attempts at "electronica" are
not the best compared to aphex or the others you may compare
them to, but you have to understand, coming from a band that
started out pretty damn pop-ish, it is fucking wonderful.
besides, i love the lyrics (if you can make them out).

actually even though the song is kinda cool i think it
sounds pretty imature as far as the style goes. it sounds
like they got the software and started fiddling and adding
weird vocal samples and an hour later they have a track.
its still good but not anything you could make a whole album
off. and no it didnt sound like geogaddi to me.

#3 on amnesiac has character. amateurish or not.
boards of canada lack character - they're dull.
so pulk definitely does not fit on geogaddi.

Pyramid Song IS awesome.

Too bad they follow it up with that piece of garbage
Pulk/Pull!

I don't like the electronic elements on Amnesiac as much as
the ones on Kid A. Packt is pretty damn bad, too. I thought
it was OK, then I heard the electronic artists that inspired
that track, and now it's total crap in comparison.

I dunno, I really enjoyed Packt. Other artists may inspired
the music, and MAY be better, but that still doesn't mean
you can't enjoy/like the music.

As for Pull/Pulk revolving Doors, I personally think this is
a completely different and odd song, if it belongs in
geogaddi is something I wouldnt know about.

As for the negative critism, Open your minds to different
sounds, you should already have since you listen to Aphex
who is totally different from the rest also.

Well, Radiohead helped open my mind to all this electronic
stuff! A Thom Yorke interview was how I found out about
Aphex Twin.

But frankly, after hearing much better electonic work by
other artists, it just made it hard to listen to Radiohead's
dabblings in the genre. Their rock stuff is unparalelled...
but I really just find their electronic experiments weak and
a waste of time to listen to, since they're not particularly
interesting OR good. Optimistic is an exception, I like that
one.

Just my opinion of course! Not that I haven't opened my
mind... I have, and I just don't like Pulk/Pull, Packt, and
some others.

Yeah agreed that Radiohead is unparralelled in rock. I've

what's so electronic about 'optimistic'?

it's not like kid a and amnesiac are or were promoted as
"experimental albums." it's just music, man. the only
difference is they've added new instruments to their
arsenal. they've always listened to can, autechre, aphex
twin, faust, kraftwerk, etc. only now they are comfortable
with branching out into other musical territories in their
own songs. it's still hybridization (rock, all types of
electronica, pop), not an outright bid to outdo warp or
rephlex artists.

''isn't it funny that BOC don't agree with you ophecks?''

Who fucking cares, I've got a mind of my own...

Since when is it wrong to have an opinion? I dislike
Radiohead's electronic endeavors and suddenly I don't have
an open mind?!?!

I know they're not trying to outdo anyone, I just think
their experiments haven't been effective... if you do,
great... but I don't... doesn't mean I don't have an open
mind, jesus criminy.

what i'm saying is:
1) kid a and amnesiac are not nor were they meant to be
considered "experimental albums", but instead a logical
continuation of radiohead's music
2) not all of the songs on kid a or amnesiac are electronic;
i can't believe you consider "optimistic" electronica!

their just beautiful albums... comparing a band/group/artist
to a genre sort of makes doing new things hard!

SHIT!!!

I didn't mean to say Optimistic... I meant Idioteque! D'oh!
Optimistic is awesome, THAT'S the directoin I want them to
go in. I don't think Packt/Pulk/Idioteque ARE logical
continuations... sounds to me like weak attempts to
experiment. Whether or not that's what they say it is,
that's what it sounds like to me... forced crap.

Pyramid Song is much more indicative of where they should be
going. It's a lot better, doesn't sound like as much of a
blatant ripoff of electronica to me.

I stress, ''TO ME''... I don't care what Thom says or meant
to do.

And I know the albums aren't totally electronic... I just
don't like having crappy techno dropped in between amazing
rock tracks.

i think idioteque is a hip-hop track more than anything, but
really it's a combo of a lot of things: hip-hop, pop, idm,
and disco. it's a logical combination of some of their
interests, not something "experimental" -- it's part of
their new direction, but it's not the only thing they're
going for. i listen to their new albums and i hear lots of
new things they're working on post-ok computer; even within
songs like "idioteque" i can sense the directionS they're
going in. they're just making songs (as opposed to
experiments), only they've added new and different
instruments (jonny greenwood is a fantastic
multi-instrumentalist, and thom yorke and the rest are
getting very good at laptop music). though they're still
learning i don't think it sounds forced. i think they're
better so far than most of the electronic musicians on this
site, and you wouldn't call everyone's mp3's here "forced"
even tho they just started making computer-assisted music in
'00, '01, or '02.

offline Ophecks from Nova Scotia (Canada) on 2002-05-30 23:50 [#00243351]

Well, it's just a matter of personal preference. Yeah,
they're branching out, but I just don't like it... I don't
think they'll ever do anything as perfect as OK Computer, at
this rate...

As for sounding ''forced''... I actually don't like a lot of
the electronic music I've heard from some people, here and
elsewhere (my own, for example :-). They often don't have
their own sound, just rip offs. Nothing wrong with that...
maybe they'll get better with time.

With Radiohead, the rock tracks sound so flawless (TO ME!!!)
and the electronic tracks (and they stick out like a sore
thumb, it ain't subtle) sound out of place and pretty lame.
I know they're not going to go back to rehashing OK
Computer, and that's cool. You're right, they're doing what
they're interested in, and that's commendable, but they
shouldn't quit their day job (in MY opinion)... I don't
think their transition sounds very smooth. My favorite
tracks from Amnesiac are Dollars and Cents, Knives Out, I
Might Be Wrong... THESE sound more logical to me. Not like
anything they're done before, but not too UNlike it,
either.

radiohead isn't trying to be electronic. its about opening
the minds of their listeners. like you ophecks many people
have gone deeper into electronic music thanks to radiohead.
the song writing is always solid though. its a lot about
minimalism as well. a lot of the warp artists add more and
more in there tracks and its refreshing at times to listen
to something more open and empty. but everyone is entitled
to their opinions.
