That really depends. I find having a lot of VST fx and DX fx to fuck up the original material helps.
Using recycle or zeroX beatslicer helps a lot. For the beats, and some of the melodies.
Then you are going to need a decend program to sequence the bits you have made. That is your standard fruityloops, cubase, reason response.
It really depends on you.

definately fruityloops or acid. Both really nice, intuitive interfaces. Acid might be a bit better for remixing, but I do everying (remix or not) in fruityloops. If people are offering you trax to do remixes of, it might be a good idea to figure out what format they be coming in. A lot of small musicians that use fruityloops will just send you the source file.

Make sure when you d/l a program, grab all the files in the same directory, and keep them together when you go to install.
Fruityloops is at v3.4 right now, and Acid is at v3.
Click on the links for more info.

The first link I sent you to is to a program called soulseek. Its a P2P filesharing network that is rather easy to use, and should be more than a help to getting you started.

Its the site that info on Sonic Foundry Acid will be located at. Not the crack mind you. That is what soulseek is for. I just thought you may want those links so you can paruse what the software can do, how it works... etc.
