What went wrong with Gantz Graf.

I think the reason many didn't fall out of their chairs
when they heard Gantz Graf is because how it sort of sounds
like Confield b-sides. B-sides, in themselves, aren't bad,
but did any of us expect honest b-sides from Autechre? Some
new material, yes, but I think everyone anticipated a hint
at the next direction for Autechre. And since Gantz Graf
turned out to sound a lot like Confield scraps, we were a
little disappointed. I'll have faith that the next Autechre
release will be something to capture my fascination in
Autechre again!

I don't fucking know. It's not on Confield's level, that's
for sure.

I'm hoping this is just a bridge between Confield and their
next big step, because Gantz Graf is my LEAST favorite work
by them.

Right--it's just kinda sounds like stale Confield tunes, to
me.

I agree, it doesn't have the same repeated enjoyment other
Autechre does.
I loved it at first but now, I just think of it as twenty
minutes better spent with Confield or LP5. :(

i still havent heard any of the full songs on the EP,
because i insist on being patient and waiting for the CD to
come out. imo, jumpin the gun and grabbin the mp3 right away
kinda spoils the excitement of the anticipation of its
release.

Word of advice... don't get your hopes up! This ain't no
Confield... blargh.

Feel free to slap me and/or kick me in the nuts if I spoiled
it for you. Hell, maybe you'll love it... probably not
though, it's sub par. :-/

Really--not much to be excited over.
My first listen was good, and I liked it the second time.
But now, it's worn out.
Other Autechre stuff doesn't get old. ;|

ae actually SAID these tracks were recorded during the
confield sessions, so it's not exactly like they're
marketing it as their new direction; it's more like
something for the fans to tide them over till the dvd and
next album come out

give it a little more time.

I've given it time and the magic has worn off. It sounds
like Autechre that I wouldn't particularly want to listen to
all of the time. I think cap.iv is pretty cool, but the
record just feels like nothing new.

your gonna feel a little blergh... it soooo short, but its
good, so chill mofo's Gantz Graf is actually really good ;P

It may be good, but it's not as relistenable as other
Autechre.
It was disappointing--not bad!
I never said the tracks were bad, just not fulfilling.

i meant stop listening to it for a while (1-2 months), then
listen to it again. and it's only been like a month since
it has been on soulseek.

Thank GOD it's not their new direction...

It's not horrible or anything, it's pretty good. But it
really let me down. Not the end of the world, but I'm still
disapointed. I've given it SHITLOADS of time, and it just
isn't clicking.

Confield B-sides, that is probably what I was thinking when
I first heard it. Though the past couple of days I have been
really into CapIV.

Cap iv on its own would be one of the most outstanding songs
from the confieldish era... that and lentic...

cap.iv reminds me a lot of bine, tho i think i prefer bine..
it's to the point. but i think cap.iv is even more hardcore,
so they're both in the same "mindblowing" category

ya i haven't heard it yet..waiting for it to come out....
yes these tracks were delivered to warp at the same time as
confield...so thats literally what the songs are..songs that
weren't good enough for confield..b-sides is what they are

cap iv is prob the best tune ive heard this year, its
fucking wicked, although i turn it off at about 7 mins wen
it goes fucking hardcore.

You people are insane. A month ago, when it appeared on
soulseek, you were all pissing your pants and climaxing in
series over the ep. Suddenly, you all feel it's second-rate
confield stuff. I remember that Ophecks was especially happy
about the ep... I mean, OK, if you don't like it any more,
well, that's fair enough, but it really is nice. Three nice
songs in Confield style, not a breakthrough in any direction
but very listenable, enjoyable and fun. What the fuck, you
let your expectations ruin you the pleasure of listening?
And, not to mention that most of you people go on all the
time that you want to hear every single track Sean & Rob
ever put on their harddisk and now you just bitch about it
not being the best fucking EP in the history of
civillisation. Chill off, for gods sake.

word, urb. I really like Gantz Graf for what it is: three
tracks of skillfully made, fun to listen to electroinic
music. I don't really care if it was made by autechre or any
of their numerous clones worldwide. Reading too much into
the music (especially as abstract as AE's) is never good for
the listening itself.

it lacks the deep atmosphere that confield has...it feels
like raw material that they could have done a lot more with.
but i like cap.iv though

I love how you guys critisize things before they are even
out, just because you got the mp3s doesnt make you god, or
even a decent reviewer (no such thing by the way)

I have actually listened to the first two tracks, though
only once or twice, I found one really good, and the other
not so... but fuck it, Id laugh my arse off if Autechre (or
anyone) made a fake release to fuck you monkeys up...

calm down, this aint over :)

2 Questions to the lot of U:

1. Is Ganz Graf anything like EP7???
2. Do you like EP7????

The few clips I've heard reminds me of the EP7-sound and EP7
is my autechre fave so far.

Yup, the initial excitement has worn off, and left a very
AVERAGE EP. :-) I don't like it much anymore. It's not bad
at all, but I expected something much better. Dial is
actually starting to grow on me, but Cap iv still isn't
clicking.

And Glitch, erm, having MP3s doesn't make me a God, but last
time I checked, even pathetic NON-Gods can form opinions,
no?

Hopefully Autechre has tricked has and has something much
better up their sleeve.

hm. Cap IV is the only one that really clicks for me. I like
Dial too though.

I'm still buying it when it comes out. oh and when I have
money to burn this summer - right now I'm a broke,
unemployed college kid.

I agree that it's quality, I'm just starting to realise that
Autechre's moving in directions that aren't exactly a
comfortable fit with my listening tastes (though I still
enjoy them). to be honest, I like these so-called "Autechre
Clones" (what the fuck is that supposed to mean, anyway??
I've yet to hear someone who I think truly sounds like
Autechre or is trying to sound like Autechre), most notably
Brothomstates. I think Claro is probably my favourite
album right now. great spring/summer music.

anyway, have fun complaining, that's what "IDM" /
avant-electronic [/ indie / emo / punk] kids do best :D

laugh away, but i am still skeptical about the gantz graf
ep. why haven't warprecords.com mentioned when it will be
released yet? we all know it's supposed to be out somewhere
round the end of may, but it hasn't officially been
confirmed, has it? i consider it a possibility we are being
tricked by autechre (or anyone) indeed, and phobiazero is in
on it with those clips he hosts on autechre.nu.

but i'm prolly insane. i love cap.iv a lot and dial a bit,
but gantz graf.... i don't get the point of the song....

Gantz Graf sounds cheap. I hoped the tracks I downloaded
were FAKES, but sadly they were the real thing. And Im not
saying that because the tracks are very "nooisy" no, because
It sounds like they didnt put any thought in it and just
recycled a few CONFIELD samples.....

that's so crazy, you turn it off before it's supreme

i love the ep. only complaint is that gantz graf is too
short, it hints at things, like a tease, and then it's done.
i like what's there, but could use much more.

it hasn't clicked yet. i'm listening to it a lot tho, and i
will buy it, cos i know how autechre's music can be...you
can hate it first, then it grows, and after a while you love
it. that's the way confield was for me anyway..

Gantz Graf is short, but very brilliant. The sound
strecthing and the beat screwings is what I dig of
electronic and I'm glad Autechre made this track. It's
something I dig for.

cortex: good question. i know for sure i read that and it
was directly from ae themselves. i'm thinking the warp Q&A
(see autechre.nu), but if not then their most recent
interview. they made a comment "these tracks were made at
the same time as confield" -- they did NOT say "here are
some lousy b-sides we didn't think were good enough for the
last album" and i'm sure they don't feel that way either.
