I like the AUTOMATOR & DEL THE FUNKY HOMOSAPIEN but im not sure about the other vocals they sound too pop/alternative rock. I dont dig guitars, didn't really notice any guitar heavy songs, but i think i did hear guitars. Thats why i like IDM, hiphop, drum&bass, because they use very little guitar in electronica genres.

Buy their album and tell me if you feel the same way, all the songs are different from the others, Good fucking sound. They're the shit. The G-sides are fucking great too
they're web site is awesome too, i would love to see them live. The whole story behind Gorillaz is fucking sweet too.
I found myself defending a lot of shit here, two different worlds I guess.

g-sides is good but it should be cheaper, it's a mere 30 min. as for gorillaz live, they've gotten rotten reviews cos they hide behind a screen wizard of oz style. the screen has animation projected onto it, and it's not even cartoons - it's like fractal design crap. i think it was a mistake to tour, it hurt their rep. the only member of the studio group gorillaz who even tours is damon albarn.

damon albarn is a ponsey middle class woofter whos dwindling indie britpop career took a nosedive as the ecstacy generation got hip to the new sounds of electronic feel good music (as opposed to that annoying crap played by blur)
Damon then decided to buy up a load of music kit and session musicians and and has thus created GORRILAS!
at least hes making money i suppose filthy elastica loving tophat monacle wearing toffee nose indie bastard!
have i stated my point clearly enough GORRILLAS BLUR DAMON ALBARN = ABSOLUTE CUNTY EXCRETIA!

I read an interview with DJ Shadow yesterday. He fell out with Dan the Automator over an album of Bollywood music. Shadow played a few drums on it and Dan went and marketed it as a collaborative effort, trying to cash in on Shadow's name.

New Shadows album? Old news mate, I'm over and done with it. It's better than Entroducing (that i hated) but still half of it is shit. Sorry to hurt your feelings, BTW. Half of it is him just doing some romantic crap (even with some dude singing, OH THE HORROR).

handsome boy modeling school and deltron 3030 are two of my favorite albums.
anyway, automator didn't exploit shadow from what i understand - the liner notes don't even mention the name "dj shadow", the drums are credited to "dj josh davis." in my opinion that's the opposite of exploiting him.
and archie: i read that he just did some mixing of a song or two, not actually produced anything. i mean liam howett may not be a very interesting producer but he is in essence prodigy, not the singers and dancers.

i wanna read that jockey slut interview on the real. is it on the web yet? i am not familiar at all with how it was marketing, i just read about the album credits and shadow's role in it was downplayed if anything. but as i said, i don't know how it was handled by the label... which label was it on, automator's 75 ark label or another? cos if it wasn't 75 ark it might not be automator's fault afterall.
as for automator's stuff being cheesy, yea sometimes it is. that's why you don't really see him sought after many serious emcees. i think most of the rappers on HBMS were prolly pulled in by prince paul who is a much more respectable hip-hop producer. i think automator is immensely talented but he needs to do some more serious shit with rappers. it won't be on the collabo he's doing with el-p cos that's an instrumental album. kool keith as much, as i love him, is and will always be just a goofball. del isn't a joke emcee by any means but his flow is too relaxed and jovial to give off any kind of "authentic hip-hop" feel on the deltron 3030 album (tho "magnetizing" off HBMS is blazing). i wanna hear automator work with some serious rappers like talib kweli, pharohe monch, gza, ghostface, etc.

Shadow says in the interview that he was just hanging in the studio and got roped into playing a bit. I think it was pushed in the press releases that come with promos in record stores. I saw a copy in my local record store and they put description stickers on most stuff. The sticker said it was a collaborative effort. So...
I don't doubt Automator's talents but as regards his integrity he sounds like a bit of a twat.
Working with Damon Albarn is a bit of a twatty thing to do anyhowz.
