Venetaian Snares is one guy from Vinipeg, Canada. I dunno
what label he's on as I have it d/l-ed and burned but he got
another split CD with atomsmasher announced on Double H
noise industries (i think the url is Hydrahead.com or
something). Venetian Snares style is extremely noisy and
glitchy drill'n'bass. Something like AFX at his most
spastic, but it often lacks any forward momentum/
funkiness... Nice for some, awful for others.

He's on Planet-Mu... Mike P's label...

I dunno what you'd call his style tho...kinda Freestyle
Gabba/DrillNBass, I guess but you really need to hear it;
it's pretty fresh, I've got a lot of time for him & his
tracks...

Oh yeah Planet Mu, somebody told me that. I know of two of
his albums, is there any more? The dude has long hair (i've
seen the pic in the wire) and looks as some death-metal fan.
cool

It's a pity the Planet Mu board is down as VSNARES used to
post there a lot... and there was a recent thread detailing
all his releases (and there were loads n loads...)...

I asked on the Planet Mu board if anyone was planning a
Venetian Snares site (such as this) and got a reply from the
man himself saying he'd registered www.venetiansnares.com
but forgot the password to log on to it!!
He also added he'd rather spend his time making music.

For the record, I think his music is ace. Takes a lot of
listening at first though if you're not used to hardcore.

snares is fucking fantastic! and what's even better is that
he's sorta "underground" and all these ppl know of his
badassness! fucking bad ass! and he's so creative, and
dark...and N0!ZY!!

Venetian Snares is the sole saviour of energy and funk in
electronic dance music. The only alternative to electro,
house, trance, garage which still has excitement left. But
it is experimental in it's time signatures, so you might not
realise you're listening to a track in 11/4 - so it may
sound random (and therefore crappy to uninitiates). Doll
Doll Doll is his best accesible album - it's a dark themed
masterpiece incorporating techstep jungle and some jazzy
elements with industrial ambience. Sort of comically scary.
But also intensely involving structure-wise. Sorry, I think
i'm a bit old for this board at 30.

They make more clever and mature posts.

How ageist - I know lots of people over 30 who act like
children. I consider my posts on the other hand to be
reasonably "clever" and mature...

very nicely put, babydie...

VS's use of odd time signatures really makes him stand
out...4/4 has been the default for so long that most techno
producers don't even give anything else a try...

There's a bit in this months SoundOnSound where VS talks
about his productions...I'll try and get it scanned tonight
and post it here....He's got a cool little technique using
Breaks and SoundForge...

yeah, it's kinda funny sometimes, talking to people half
your age...

But I do kinda like that about Messageboards in
general...you get to talk to people regardless of all those
sex/age etc. barriers that crop up in real life, which can
be pretty refreshing...

True Jand. The fact that you're 87 and post from a nursing
home in Bournemouth doesn't stop you from interesting with
younger people who like music.

Have you reached the age where it's no longer ok to
dance?...

Like you feel people might be whispering "check out

I get funny looks when I go to the youth club. People think
that because I'm in my twenties I shouldn't go. I just like
to dance with the girls. I always ask the DJ for the
smoochie songs.

Ha ha, I remember there was this youth club called the "Boy
and Girl" club in Pontypridd that me and a friend went past
every time we went to kung-fu. There where all these mouthy
little 11 year old valleys kids. We kept on saying that we
should go there one night. We never did though. I wished we
had though- we could have bopped to oxide and neutrino and
play table tennis.

There was a May Day demo here on Saturday and they had DJs
playing brekbeat in the Market Sq. I thought how great it
would be if someone played Come To Daddy. It'd be surreal.

There was this 60 year old women busting some wicked moves
next to this 12 year old. Nice day.

I suppose it's ok to be 30. aphex is what? 31 now I think?
and he's quite hardcore still.
