Do you remember your 1st Aphex Twin/AFX/etc. CD?What was it
, and do you remeber getting it and what you thought about
it?

Mine was Come To Daddy, I put it in the CD player at the
store and after listening for a couple of minutes thought
"this kicka ass!"I rushed home and played it full blast, non
stop until I got another Aphex Twin CD, cant remember what
it was though.

SAW II was my first ever. i remember getting it at a
downtown store, i was so excited about it....that record
makes me think a lot. Most of the first ideas and sketches
for my architecture projects have come from that album.

SAW II was my first purchase. =0)

it was in the coolest record shop on the famous HAIGHT
street in San Francisco!!

and the first listen was in the airplane going home.....and
i was BLOWN away.

btw.....i bought aphex before listening.....a DOUBLE
CD....ahhaha....the person that recommended this CD told me
i would NOT like it.....and that it was SPACE
MUSIC.....those two things made me buy it!!
cos one.....I MAKE UP MY OWN MIND ABOUT WHAT MUSIC I LIKE
AND DONT.....and secondly....I LIKE SPACE MUSIC....i thought
it would sound like the group 'tangerine dream' that kinda
space music.....=)))))

rdj album. when i first listened to it, i thought it was
the weirdest/craziest shit (not in a good way) i had ever
heard at the time. i thought about returning it right away,
but decided to keep it for whatever reason. months later,
after trying autechre's lp5, my second idm purchase, i
listened to rdj album again and realized all the talent that
went into it and was happy that i didnt return it.

now, i miss the feeling i felt when i first listened to the
rdj album. it was completely different from anything i ever
heard before.

my first aphex cd was SAW85-93 for wich i waited 8weeks to
get(ordered by amazon), then i first listened to the whole
album i wasn't suprised, it was nice but not very special.
after some weeks i found Come to Daddy EP in a record store
and this was the cd wich made my head to explode. then i
understood this music more.

My first afx ..... :

I borrowed this tape from a friend ,with
rdj album and hangable autobulb I on it.

The day after she gave that tape to me,
I was in a record store, and they had only one cd by aphex
twin.
it was Come to daddy e.p.
I was so happy!
I bought it,without listening and knowing aphex twin for
only one day...

=o)

I was 16 and some guy on irc from finland sent me Alberto
Balsalm.mp2

Some days later I phoned and ordered ICBYD.. the girl in the
record shop said "oh, so you like aphex? then maybe you'd
like this squarepusher guy too". Must be my best purchse
ever I think :)

it was '97. i read a VERY postive review about Come To Daddy
and i told my girlfriend (x-girlfriend now) who was into AFX
that I wanted that CD. She then bought it for my birthday,
and now i have 16 AFX cds ...well 18-20 this week when i get
my hands on On & Ventolin Remixes (+ maybe AB1/AB3) ...CTD
is still my fav. AFX CD!

listened to, RDJ.

The first time I heard of Aphex Twin was in Select magazine
in 1995 with the headline: "You don't have to be mad to work
here but it helps" and rdj mentioning that using drugs in
the studio is just like using a different sequencer. I
steered clear from him for ages. The next thing I heard was
in Select again in '97 about him creating "the most
disturbing video ever". I just thought, this guy is fucking
sick! Then in '98 I thought I'd download this "Come To
Daddy" song and was blown away. I listened to that, Alberto
Balsalm, Acrid Avid Jam Shred and Windowlicker many times as
mp3s and only in '99 did I decide to buy an Aphex CD. I was
in France in fnac and I got SAW II for 128F. No idea how
much that is but I think it was quite reasonable. Since then
I've been trying to buy everything of his, within my budget.
The last thing I bought was HAB1 off ebay, haven't got it
yet though...

It was funny buying Or Some Computer Music just because of
the Aphex track and finding out that the first track on the
CD was by someone from Augsburg (Hecker, half of
cd_slopper)!

My first Aphex CD was the RDJ Album... but it didn't matter.
I already had the MP3s.

Now downloading his stuff the Christmas before last was
REALLY good... hearing his tracks and albums for the first
time from Napster was a turning point for me. I guess the
first stuff I got from him was mostly from the I Care
Because You Do album, so that's really my Aphex intro album.
I miss not being new to him, it was great exploring his
stuff.

ICBYD was the first album i bought. i did buy MTV's AMP
before, that's what got me into RDJ. i remember i think i
got it on halloween of '98 i played it all day and night and
i handed out candy to all the lil trick or treaters with it
blasting on the stereo in the background. it is very
delicate getting into RDJ stuff. i was very into just the
dnb shit early on i picked up SAWII and promptly sold it
back with no delay. stupidest thing i ever did cuz i had to
steal it back after hearing some tracks on my launchcast
player recently. now i love any and everything RDJ. i want
it all!

i got DrukQs late last year, and didn't exactly
like/understand the offbeat rapid fire IDM stuff that much.
i started listening to it, picking out songs i liked here
and there, and wound up liking more and more of it, so i
decided to go back to the roots, SAW 85-92. i liked a lot of
this also, being a little easier to listen to but still
amazing from someone that was 14 at the time (still
wondering which tracks he did at which age.) after that, i
started snagging most of the major afx releases on cd,
actually BOUGHT about 11 afx cd's so far. after about 3 or 4
years of swearing off wasting money on buying cd's because
you could find music off crapster and everything i was into
was mostly rehashed boring crap, i finally found something
worthy of spending money on because i didn't want to be
bothered by just having the 'singles' or trying to piece
together full albums from separate mp3's. the only regret i
have is not being part of the 'community' back when RDJ and
ICBYD and the like were newer.

because I had a lot of mp3's. I adored vordhosbn right from
the start. then I got into mt saint michel and a few months
(and 7 afx albums) later 54 cymru beats was and still is my
absolute afx favorite
