question for the musicians up here:

Have U ever considered, or are U already making commercial
(read: radio friendly) music under another name ?

I'm personally thinking about making some 2-step-like tracks
under another moniker,.for the sake of cashflow.

A friend of mine has been signed recently to midtown records
for 5 trance tracks. Although I hate trance ,I can imagine
making some tunes to try and make some dough for further
financing my studio.

he he,...yeah,..I can't actually! I'm in a lawsuit against
my former employer 'cause of an illegal ending of our
contract!

If I start somewhere else now,.I probably fuck up my chances
in court.(I'll spare U the details)

But uhm,..my music is working for me,.last year I had 2
releases,.some airplay,...+ I'm negociating with a
production company for a musical score for adds.

isen't it "prostitution" to work every day with anything you
don't care about?

I say do it man it's a lazy shit job, writing house or
trance is not werry hard. and the litle i've herd of the
crap tells me that the record companys arn't to concerned
with how it sounds.

Well,..I don't plan on making shitty house all the
time.(hell no!)

When I compare the studio's my friends work in, to my silly
set-up,..I can;t help but feel jealous! And they're making
bullshit music with all their synths

!

I occassionaly force myself to make a "nice sounding" (read:
popular) track, just to prove I can.

If you have some 'bubbly-catchy-pseudo-d&b' tracks around 45
seconds, you can be on any commercial in America.....

but, in the end you just have to know someone....

offline plugexpert from Nijmegen (Netherlands, The) on 2002-04-30 18:03 [#00201142]
Points: 1073 Status: Lurker

True that Smeagle!

My first release on a comp. wasn't because I send out a
demo,.but because the guy who designed the cd-cover got hold
of my cd through a mutual friend.
He then told the label boss about my music,.......

This designer has also done covers for the label Musik aus
Strom(=funkstorung) and Clone(=funckarma)

Yes,i had the same idea!

but i´m no good at making crap music, it can only turn
good, and people dont like that generally.

I know what you mean,...trying to construct a sell-out house
tune,..just can't help to slip a quick breakbeat in ,..or
add some signature trademarks.

HHHHmmmm,..some guy I know makes the interludes on Dutch TV
for SBS 6 & Fox. He also does intro/outro music for
different programs. Everytime a tune of his get aired ,he
receives royalties,....basterd is already fuckin'rich.

And he was bragging to me how his 'alternative' friends were
still broke and he is makin' the big-bucks with synth
presets and ripping off sample-cd's

AAAAAaaaaarrrrgggg!!!

well if people continue making popular brainless,
formulaic-to-an-embarassing-degree music, then the charts
won't evolve -- the mass won't get educated past kylie
minogue or some shit pseudo-techno tune

all u have to do is invoke satan, tell himto remove his
underwear, and SUCK HIS COCK

--oh, and haven't you considered the possibility of getting
addicted to making join-the-dots music because of the pay
check -- imagine getting up in the morning and thinking "now
will i get to work on that sonic terrorism dope track i
dreamt of last nite, or work on that chart-track which'll
get me another 10 grand"

well the basterd followed a course in Hilversum here in
Holland ,..some audio/mastering course where he had to
follow an intern(?) stage (?) at some fancy hotshot studio.

He probably was at the right place/time etc and off course
had a lot of luck meeting the right people who acknoledged
his commercial talent.

Marlowe I understand the overal feel off your critic,..I
myself are most skeptical about making commercial
music,..but hey I'd like to buy a 'Korg Triton' too or the
new 'Virus whatever'.

Hhhmm,..the most commercial project I'll be working on in
the next month is a Hip Hop track for my brother.
whose a upcoming underground mc.

yeah, no offense to your friend, i just think whoring your
soul / talent is nauseous --- getting a job is a question of
whoring your time and not dying - whoring your soul is a
different matter

offline plugexpert from Nijmegen (Netherlands, The) on 2002-04-30 19:38 [#00201289]
Points: 1073 Status: Lurker

Theres lots of underground IDM artists that also have
(secret) commercial side-projects going on,...(somebody
like Nautilis pops in my mind)

The scene in electronic music isn't (thank god) as big as
pop music. So people have to branch out to make some quick
do.

I guess it also depends on how commercial you're willing to
go,..a hardcore hip hop instrumental is commercial in my
book.

there is a different between being deliberately commercial,

I'm gonna start a shitty pop/boyband. I despise everything
about that music except the money and the women. The sadder
part is is that I could get on stage and tell all my fans
that and they'd still like me...God I hate pop music.
Anyone wanna be in my money making sceme?

If you just decide to make conventional music, you still
won't make any money. There's even more artists competing
for publicity there. Counterfit money is the best way to go.

Well it isn't HKU KMT if you're going to that school! I
actually applied there for "composition electronic music"
,..I'm still waiting for feedback on my application.

Without giving to much info on him,.his first name is
Pieter. He lives/works in Druten (netherlands)

and he actually isn't a friend of mine,.....the employer I'm
sewing right now also did his insurances,..and he came often
to visit and chat during breaks as he had a studio nearby
the office,......

Hey ,but Slempet U also was on that comp. from Jasper
right?
'Expertise',.that was a dope track man!

Marlowe, what's the difference between selling out and
selling out with music? Making shit music is like you said
perpetuating the horrible pop music but working a 9 to 5 for
something you care nothing about for a corporation who's
sole purpose is profit is perpetuating the horrible material
focused lifestyles that so many live.

minimum wage so that you can focus on your passion and
making a career in advertising, or the oil industry, or as a
PR consultant or as an Independant Financial Adviser or any
