Boy, this album is fantastic... I'm even starting to
appreciate Ventolin, although I have to turn the volume down
cause it gives me a headache at high volumes...

so, if you like this album, what aspects do you like the
most?

For me it's the synths used in the songs... they are so
sweet... they just surround you with this sound, and it's so
gorgeous... I also love the percussion, and the way it kind
of interacts with the synth sounds... This album is so
awesome!!!

ICBYD is the best!

I love the beats! I love every bit of it, Ventolin and the
crazy sounds throughout. Very brilliant work by Aphex!

It is his best, highlights?

When the violin drops in The Waxen Pith

when the melody drops two minutes 2:30ish into Wax the
Nip

Icct Hedral, the whole fucking thing
when you hear the first few seconds of Start As You Mean to
Go On for the first time in a long time

When the melody drop 1:11 seconds into Alberto Balsalm
it is fucking magical

I Care Because You Do is, in my opinion, the most amazing
music ever written. I could go on like this, but you get
the idea

ICBYD is aphex, Drukqs is a response to critics.

I don't understand why people don't like Ventolin. So it's
a constant high-pitched noise, but it sounds so cool and
makes the whole song sound so long!

very true...
personally i think it's an artistic masterpiece- that i
can't stand-
it's a fucking audio representation of an asthma attack- wtf
do you expect?

offline Spookyluke from United States on 2002-04-30 03:19 [#00200214]

Precisely! It's a masterpiece. I can understand having
problems with Come On, you Slags! though. "Slags" gives me
more headaches than Ventolin ever would!

(and yes the master has a very "interesting" photo)

It's a great album.

Waxen Pith - strange, but genuinely appealing
acrid avid jamshred - very cool beat
Come on you slags - I start laughing everytime he says it
Cow cud - funny, intriguing little track
Next heap with - unnerving, powerful album closer.

Yeah, this is an amazing album. Seems to have a universal
appeal... I can listen to it in any mood, anytime, and
there's something on there that will be right for me.

You know, I think "universal appeal" describes it best! My
girlfriend, who is not a fan of Aphex in general, loved a
handful of tracks from this record! She wants a copy of it!
And the piano pieces from Drukqs! Surprizing, eh?

í must say that Ventolin´s growing on me like a damn
virus. the high pitch used to be anoying at first, but now i
love it, i feel like that weird kinda "masoquistic pleasure"
when i hear it, not to mention how much i love to play it
for wannabe "IDM people" at terrible high volumes
ñññññññññññññññññññññññññññññÃ
hehehehhehe
±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±Ã±

anyway, ICBYD is awesome. but then so is the Richard D.
James and so is Drukqs (my opinion)

offline Spookyluke from United States on 2002-04-30 03:51 [#00200252]
Points: 1955 Status: Lurker

I like a large majority of his music. I must admit some of
Drukqs is not so great, but at least he gave us a double CD.
I usually slim it down, skip tracks, shuffle 'em around.
Eh!

Richard D. James album is probably hard for people to get
into if they are not yet an Aphex Twin fan!

all the songs on ICBYD are all so different and still all so
fucking rad!

VENTOLIN totally makes that whole album!

START AS YOU MEAN TO GO ON comes in @ a close 2nd!

the whole entire album is the fucking shit, seriously!

I got ICBYD on the weekend, and I haven't been able to take
it off my stereo. It's like, "okay one more song, that's
it!.....Ok and how about Ventolin too?" and so on....
Since then, I've got 6 friends into Aphex Twin, mostly with
Ventolin!

it's good all the way through... right now I'd pick Come On
You Slags as the worst song, but even that one isn't that
bad...

I have not experienced any big fuss over ventolin yet :/ Im
getting worried. The melodies of Avrid and Balsalm are so
sweet....the melody makes those songs.

It's not too surprising that it would appeal to your
girlfriend... there's some pretty stuff on there!!! I wish
he'd go back and do some more Alberto Balsalmish tracks.
Bbydyonchord doesn't match up, and the piano tracks aren't
fleshed out enough. Not enough ''pretty'' stuff by RDJ
anymore.

Yah, those strange, electronic melodies are more appealing
even to huge piano fans like her than the simple piano
pieces on drukqs.

Alberto Balsalm(track 10), i can almost say its my favorite
Aphex Track, thats a very hard choice. Acrid avid
jam(track)1 is also really good. I Care Because You Do, and
Richard d. James are his strongest Albums IMO especially
when you take into consideration the years some of the songs
were made like on ICBYD some date back to 1992-1993. Years
ahead of his time, same with RDJ-1996 its still to good to
be true, I bet in a hundred years people will finally "get"
his music right now it goes over most peoples heads, hes to
futuristic for a lot of people.

that wont happen at all see what will happen is people um,
being influenced by him and getting popular and famous and
rich beyond their wildest dreams of course wont give any
thanks to RDJ. we will all know whats going on and when we
tell poeple that we were into RDJ who started it all way
back when they wont give a flying carcass of rotting flesh
about it they'll say so what i never heard of RDJ you are
lying you know nothing i know everything this music is brand
spanking new no way could it have been around long ago his
music probably sucked major penis too. the fact that RDJ
releases so many exclusive, rare, limited and hard to find
stuff will only prove their point and make us look like
senile old goats. see you in the looney bin my friends!

there's this one track, not sure which, but multiple tracks
of audio are streaming through each other creating some
really interesting effects. then, the track that gets slowed
down at the end dissecting the sounds is awesome.
i let a friend borrow the disc and finally got it back a few
days ago but haven't popped it in yet.
ventolin is great in its splendor...unless i've got a
headache :)

This was my first Afx album.....

that was in '96, and I had a couple of preconceptions of
what I thought 'techno' was.....my brain didn't know what
the fuck to think....I must say, it did take me longer to
get into it than any other Afx album has....

those of you who dislike ventolin.. have you listened to the
remixes?

you shouldn't let the original put you off, these tracks are
some of aphex' best. and the cylob mix is from heaven. (I
know I've just said this in another thread, but it can't
hurt repeating this :)

the eeeeeeee then i'd listen ventolin to death.

Drukqs is his worst...you get tired of the tracks after
listening to them too much.

RDJ is imo his best...mine is scratched to shits...can't
even listen to it anymore.
