For context, I wrote this song immediately after ending a 3
year relationship with my first live-in girlfriend. I know
it may not be exactly the type of stuff you guys might
typically listen to all the time, but I'm pretty happy with
my progress in getting a better mix for myself.

Feel free to let me know what you think!

breaking with your gf, were you angry, crying or calm, what
you want to say

whats the emotion attached to the music, and why that makes
it worth to link the link

Thanks belb, I appreciate your input even though it doesn't
appeal to you stylistically. =)

As far as my emotional state while writing the music, I was
definitely upset, but also very calm. The relationship was
really difficult as she has severe borderline personality
disorder, and often had extreme emotional episodes where she
yell and scream at me for extended periods of time over the
smallest of things, or threaten self harm by cutting or
overdosing on prescription medications (xanax and klonopin
specifically, which I had to take her to the hospital for
several times.)

For a long time, I didn't end the relationship because I
felt that perhaps I deserved to be with someone that didn't
contribute financially and seemed to punish me emotionally
for anything she perceived to be wrong. I had it in mind
that I wasn't good enough to be with another girl, and that
no one would actually want me anyway. My self-worth was
pretty shot after spending so much time being cut down by
her, even though I knew that her disorder was the cause of
her acting like that.

When finally broke up with her, my emotions were a mixture
of sadness at knowing that I wouldn't see her again, and
relief to be done with the stress of knowing that it was
only a matter of time before the next blowup over something
that most people wouldn't even bat an eye at. I was calm to
the point that immediately after hanging up the phone (she
was in Florida visiting her mother at the time), I grabbed
my guitar and began writing, the lyrics forming out of the
mindset that I didn't need this person to validate my
self-worth. What I really needed was to feed my passion by
creating music again (something which I could never take the
time to do while with her.)

Having to leave someone you love because you know it can't
work is one that I hope others can relate to, and and
perhaps the music can make them feel hopeful for the future
in knowing that someone else knows exactly how that feels.

I think tapping into emotions is paramount for making
interesting music, well I reckon it is, have you tried
making music on a more subliminally emotional level? I know
it sounds pretentious but it isn't really, like the sounds
of grass under your feet, how the sky looks that sort of
thing, it might be more tenuous and hard to categorise but I
think it generally leads to more interesting stuff, I mean
after all do we need another song about relationships? not
to disparage what you have done, you are clearly talented

ok, i played it, you have talent with the voice, bit like
jimmy edgar, the music is a bit cheesy for the xlt standard,
well produced like it just came out of the studio but a bit
bland like belb said

Yeah to be honest I actually kind of tried to keep this song
on the simpler side to an extent. The reason I ended up
making this conscious decision was to make it easier to
focus on doing what I can to increase my production value to
my best ability. Earlier stuff that I created with a friend
made me feel as if we might have been trying to do to much
without really taking the steps to get a proper mix. I do
want to vary my sound a lot though, so I like writing more
complex and intricate stuff too.

That said, I know that this definitely doesn't align with
the style of music that most people here listen to, so I
appreciate the honest feedback and opinions. This is one of
the more pop-esque songs that I will probably ever write,
but most of my stuff will probably be more of a down-tempo
flavor in some capacity. I do actually prefer more
interesting topics for lyrics, though sometimes those can be
tough for me to write, depending on my mood. For some reason
lyrics have always seemed to come easier to me when upset or
depressed, don't know why. Thanks for the feedback though!

to quote sammie i like it i mean those other ppl are right
saying its not revolutionizing music but tbqh that is
implicitly accepting the rock critic mindset of music as a
linear progression in 1 direction which 1 neednt subscribe
2.

i listen and enjoy this kind of music and i thought ur track
was rly nicely made

thanks for your explanation man. i hope as a result of your
ended relationship you make more music and be here a bit
more, we're in a shortage of memebers you might have
noticed.

talking of emotional relationship-based music-making, this
is the one track I ever made that still breaks me whenever I
listen to it: I made it while trying to escape an incredibly
abusive (physically and emotionally) relationship

"Walking Away Towards You"

After ending a long-term relationship based purely on sexual
turmoil I wrote a song called "Sanguine Serenade" and whilst
no recording survives, I still kind of remember how it went,
something like

DRANG!!!!!
Why¿??????
DRANG!!!!
You fffffffffffffuckin'
DRANG!!!!!!
Bitch!!!!!!
DRANG!!!!
Why?????
Aaaagggghhhhhh!!!!
FUCK!

Powerful stuff I think you'll agree.

I enjoyed your track marlowe, thanks for sharing! I feel for
you, people that haven't been in an abusive relationship
often can't understand how difficult it can be to get out
of. My ex was pretty damned emotionally abusive, and while
she would slap and hit me at times too, it wasn't something
that was realistically going to hurt me. I'm sorry you had
to experience that, and I hope you escaped with a little
sanity still intact! I know my brush with crazy definitely
did a number on me for a while there.

Thanks again for all the comments guys, I will definitely
post some more stuff on here when I feel like I've got a
proper mix going.

yeah, people can be pretty dismissive about it, they don't
understand the sustained nature of it, and the brutality and
stress of it - thankfully I've been four years clear of this
nut case, glad that you got clear too
