i feel that everyone whoes into this crossbredding of IDM
and rap/hip-hop should get nautilis' "are you an axolot" (or
something along those lines)

it's a true IDM rap cd...it's not just lame rap...with kinda
a idm feel in the instrumental...it's real IDM
instrumentals, with some decent rap over it, and even some
querky vocal samples...especially the ones about the
turtle..

I love Nautilits but the one track that I've heard with his
rap was pretty poor. He should stick the instrumentals imo.

Dunno, just discovered the Unseen pretty recently. He also
goes by Madlib if ya didn't know. Quas is his high-pitched
alter ego.

I like making goofy little freestyles over Cow Cud it a
Twin, that track is the closest Aphex thing to hip hop me
thinks

ICBYD is not hip hop by any means. Endtroducing is not
really hip hop either. Although both are amazing albums.

Except for prefuse I'm not really much into the hip hop for
electronic heads scene. I used to listen to a lot of hip
hop before I got into electronic so I guess my list still
counts

Notorious B.I.G. - Ready to Die
A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders
Gangstaar - Hard to Earn
Ugly Duckling - forgot the name
Camp Lo - Uptown Saturday Night

Missy Elliott is good thanks to Timbaland production...she
would be perfect if she stopped working with/for destiny's
child, janet jackson and so on..I think that a lot of IDM
albums of 2001including Vespertine(UNDO?!) have been
influenced by some recent hip hop/r'n'b stuff

Yes i can hear some Timbaland/modern RNB Influences here and
there.
Proem for example often uses quite "bouncy" beats.

wtf those idm mean

offline jupitah from Minneapolis (United States) on 2002-04-22 06:01 [#00188431]
Points: 3489 Status: Lurker

idm originally meant "intelligent dance music." it now
means the genre that supposedly consists of complex
electronic music like or unlike Aphex Twin. nobody seems to
like the title "intelligent dance music" but idm stuck, so
it is simply what it is, the genre.

It's probably better that it doesn't suggest anything
specific; open to interpretation. My only problem with mine
is that I don't mean to refer to the planet Jupiter, but oh
well.
