drug plan?

ok, so one complaint about drukqs is that it sounded like a
bunch of unrelated tracks just sitting around on his hard
drive, thrown together onto a CD

so, do you think it works well together as an album?

do u think he really did just take a bunch of tracks and
throw them together, or actually plan it out as a real
album?

I personally think the chaotic nature of the track
arrangement added to the overall theme. I mean, think about
it, we've got emotional piano tracks (nanou2), harcore
drillnbass (st michaels mount), and "other" (gwarek2). A
garden variety of extremes, thats Rich for ya.

you know, I've been thinking, has anyone else noticed how
the first song can make or break a cd to a certain extent?
If the song is excellent then I find I like the cd usually,
but if the song sucks, no matter how excellent the other
songs are, the first one kinda ruins the rest of the cd for
me... my point is that the order of an album has really come
into view for me as an important fascit of the listening
experience, and so with Drukqs, I must say I haven't
listened to it in ages, even though some of the songs are so
damn excellent... it's the order I think... the first two
songs of the album don't do that much for me, and I think it
ruins the album for me...

and plus the order of the songs is just so all over the
place... it's way too chaotic...

yeah, totally. luckily, all my favorite cds have had
relatively enjoyable first tracks. sometimes if the cd is
REALLY good, but has a shitastic first track, i can convince
myself i like it just so i can enjoy the rest of the cd.

he actually said in an interview that he spent quite a bit
of time on the track order on drukqs...more so than his
other albums even

not even the first one all the time, just a really bad song
mixed in with a load of excellent ones... ICBYD is such a
perfect example... Ventolin is his worst song in my opinion,
yet it is on what would be his best cd in my opinion if it
wasn't on it... it kinda ruins the whole album for me...

r u INSANE funkmaster?!?
you MUST be, cus ur opinion is different than mine!

for me, the first two tracks, TOGEThER (ie listened one
after the other) are probably my favourite part of drukqs!
the first one is so cool.. its always stuck in my head
but whats ingenious is the way it sets u up for number 2...
sort of leads up to it, preparing for it
then at the end of #1, hes got u right where he wants
you...
...then when track 2 explodes out at you.. incredible!

yeah...my favorite cds always seem to have a really good
first and last track..
though i think a really good last track is more
important...i tend to lose interest in cds that start strong
and just sort of trail off into an ending
if i like a cd that doesnt have a good final track...but a
really good one in the middle...ill often stop it
there...like the rdj album ends for me at logan rock witch
(since before i realized that was the intended
ending..without the girl/boy ep stuff) and i usually stop
squarpusher's miron after my sound...the songs after it dont
really fit with the rest of the album, in my opinion

They're alright man, but don't do that much for me...

The thing about Drukqs I like is how disorganized and
slapped together it is... even the tracks. If they were
physical things, they'd be hideous machines with losts of
moving parts made of various things and shit, collected from
junkyards and the like. Not smooth and sleek stuff like Go
Plastic. Everyone thing sounds so perfectly produced, every
percussive sound and bassy boom. Drukqs is just madness... I
don't care what anyone says, there's little signifigance in
the track listing, other than hard/soft/hard/weird etc.

Jynkwenyth leading into Vordhosbn is just amazing, too...

Welcome to drukqs topic #3033031.5

I'd agree w/ ophecks about the disorganization, i mean it
goes from piano to drill&bass so rapidly...which is kinda
cool. It's such a manic album.

exactly and that's what we should expect from rich, that's
what i like in his music : he don't give a shit...
you have to view it like he said in interview, you have a
doubleCD full of tracks, some you like some you dislike and
now you make a compilaation from it that suit you, it's
really a good concept for me!

I think the best thing about Drukqs is how it starts
scattered but does progress toward more order, I think.
Starting with Taking Control I think everything begins to
blend better!

AMinal:

I believe that *even though the track listing might not be
"regular"* ... someone else said it best... "it's
chaotic"... well shit, from chaos comes simplicity.

I look at Drukqs as being one of Rich's most EASIEST albums
to listen to, because it's such a GREAT mix of his style
that a 1st time listener could understand why Rich came out
with previous releases & that he will still continue to push
the limits after this album.

I don't think it's bad for RDJ to put out a simple album
like Drukqs, I mean, good lord, I started listening to the
RDJ Album again & haven't put it down for 3 weeks now. Every
artist needs a simpler kind of life, when every artist
reaches that point could be completely different from when
they expected.

Did I make any sense? I hope so.

i think that drukqs was very well made and that it is a very
tight album. i really dont think that they were tracks that
were just laying around. i think drukqs was very well made
and each track is nothing short of amazing.

Oops, I put the best track at the end of my CD :( perhaps I
should change the order...
