i would like to say congratulations to paula radcliffe for
her amazing win this morning in the London marathon - she
achieved the second fastest recorded time ever, running over
26 miles in less that 2h20m -- what makes this even more
incredible is the fact that she has never run a marathon
before.

how did it go with phil selway (drummer in radiohead) ?
heard he was planning on running the marathon.

I could never run a marathon.....I was only good at the
short distances when I was in school - 100m, 200m and 500m.

Congratulations to all who ran!

I prefer to watch it on TV - its less stressfull..

Paula Radcliffe lives & trains in Loughborough (Near
Leicester ) . about 3 months ago I was out running and
deciding it was a knackering waste of energy, when I heard
two voices coming up fast behind me ...

.. ZOOOooom... overtaken by none other than

...Paula Radcliffe & some handsome fella, going casually
along at around 30 mph and chatting like people in armchairs
in the pub !

I'm glad she's the best in the world, anyone any faster
would be really scary!
BEEP-BEEP ! (roadrunner) :)

I wonder how long it would take you to walk the
motherfucker... 26 miles... how fast does the average person
walk?

well, if you remember that old steven king novella, anything
less than 4mph and you would be killed - so that's 26/4,
equals about 6½ hours - so some of them fuckers are going
pretty slow!

and ben, it's good see a yorkshiremen who can admit it!

The Long Walk... that's a fucking great story IMO... not
exactly original, or exciting... but somehow strangely
compelling, like The Beach, or American Psycho... nothing
much in the way of plot but unputdownable

yes, i liked his collection of early books - american psycho
is pretty dull i think - i couldn't finish it! maybe it
suddenly changed completely, but having seen the film, i
doubt it!

To be fair, it wasn't really his fault -- it was the damned
Police Escort who led him briefly astray! I'd be most
surprised / chagrined if he was DQ'ed

she's a runner
Radcliffe resisted calls for her to move up to the marathon
until she felt the time was right in 2002, and quickly
showed a liking for the distance with a stunning debut in
London in 2002.

Her 2:18:56 victory was the second fastest marathon in
history, the fastest debut (by four minutes), and more than
three minutes faster than the previous record for a
women-only marathon. Displaying her usual front-running
tactics, she ran a solo second half in 67:52
