Just got my bundle. Never have used Ableton nor a MIDI control surface before, other than the QWERT MIDI. So far its pretty straightforward. I can load up the AKAI templates in drum rack and play the MPD with the presets.
However, I'm having no idea on how to put together a group of my own samples. I've tried dragging .wavs into the already existing banks on these drum rack templates to no avail.
I've also tried opening a new Impulse instrument, dragging the samples into empty banks, but when I hit a pad on the device they are not triggered.
I've been to preferences and have set the MPD as MIDI in and out.
Perhaps someone with a little more experience and knowledge can give me a reasonable solution as to what I am overlooking?
Thanks much!

Okay nevermind, Dumb rack isnt supported as anything other than a preset in Lite version, sorry for being a queer.

to get past that, just sign up for the free trial on the site and bookmark the page, because you can just keep putting in new email addresses and use the free trial for a good long time!
only issue is you need internet access in order to save (i used to use wireless tether on my mobile in a pinch, it only takes a second to authorize and then youre good for as long as you have it open). also, be sure to never reauthorize with a new email address while live is still open, or else it'll recognize you've used multiple free trials and you won't be able to use the free trial on that comp again (ive even tried re-installing a whole new os, they seem to log your mac address in those cases).
also i super super super highly recommend getting big fat pads for your mpd. the stock pads are wayyyy too insensitive (the jerks! :P), with the fat pads you just have to lightly tap the pad to get a response.
have fun, they're a good combo! my mpd 26 was probably the best over-all gear purchase i've ever made besides monitors... and my computer... and sub... hah. but yeah, it's awesome, being able to bang out beats instead of being tied to the grid is awesome and opens up a lot more possibilities, creatively speaking.

I can tell they feel a bit stiff so softer pads seems ideal. As far as Abelton goes, I am trying to find a crack for it on my Mac but cant download torrents. I've got the full version of lite, bit the trial version of 8.3.3
In this trial though, Im running some samples now and this is ridiculously fun.

DONT run the mac cracks, believe me, they time bomb and are not worth it.
making a new gmail account every month and making sure you have internet access is far less hassle than suddenly not being able to make any music on your computer unless you shell out ~500 bones

The trial versions only enable saving and exporting right? So say the trial expires, I could still open it and do live stuff in drum rack just for the moment and record it through something else?

totally a possibility. but again, once the trial expires, go back to the page on ableton.com where you start the trail and enter a new email address and BOOM you've got another 30 day trial.
i did this for about 2 years before i finally up and bought it myself.

HARDCORE SHOWCASE COMING UP!
Nasty Asshole 2 is playing at the WW tonight. I've been skipping shows lately because I pass out before they start and forget to wake up and pedal my ass over a dozen blocks. Can't miss the showcase though. Have beers with me.

Bruja played first and I left. There were maybe 15,20 people there. Not even close to half of what the usual turnout is for such heavy dudes.
