Creating stuff like this eludes me, but then again I'm too habitual to try new things other than simple cheesy modplug tracker and hate most newfangled 'piano roll' web 2.0 music bloatware. Since I already had to 'download it' and 'save it to a folder' I may as well burn it to CD. Whenever I click on those file upload sites it takes me about 45 seconds to realize what I'm even supposed to click on, and half the time the largest 'download' button takes me to another page away from the file. Then I have to click 'show in finder' and drag to quicktime or else it will launch iTunes which takes another thousand years to load. Then months later I get a notice that my HD is almost full, why, because I have a hundred files in my downloads folder I had to save to my computer instead of streaming them and moving on, or downloading because I had the option after I listened. In short it was an OK tune. |

For some strange it played back as a MIDI using the soundboard to my 1995 Packard Bell, but other I was able to figure it out. The download link doesn't have a box and it is black text, but that seemed to go with the song somehow. |

thanks for your comment wmw, especially when you eat a fly on the top of it. i think there is a middle between bloatware and a tracker. i never used a tracker, my first music program was "music" (1998) on the first playstation, and it featured a piano roll. what i liked about this soft was the little icons on each sequences, that helped memorize them, have a better view, less abstract than "stupid little boxes" like you said. As for creating your own music soft... i m not sure if i understand... the MIDI system is already in place, you have to deal with it. I had to switch from Logic 5.5, to 5.3 (pirate) in order to make it work on windows 7. Logic 5.3 is 10 years old, and still very good. (but no icon for each sequence, only coloured boxes) Also, if you have a knack on abstract programming, try use max/msp ? i have version 4.5 and i'm amazed at the possibilities of this soft. Lots of possibilities, but so human unfriendly, like : wanna play a note, okay, midi note on pitch 0-127, velocity 0-127, duration millisecond, and dont forget the note off.... (i'm not even mentionning release velocity 0-127) Download some max and some reaktor5 and do electric marvel. (shit). |
