Have you ever done this as a way of overcoming social awkwardness?

Actually, there is an issue here. Can one actually intentionally embarrass themselves? Isn't the nature of embarrassment that it's unintentional?

One theory is that you could unconsciously intentionally embarrass yourself as a way of overcoming social awkwardness (or even just confronting the pain/fear of social embarrassment/rejection for whatever reason).

Embarrassing yourself, as in being able to take yourself not too seriously? Or just intentionally fuck up?

goDel's question is perfectly legitimate, and i was wondering about the same thing. NO, i don't think we understand what the fuck you mean.
exactly WHAT do you mean by "embarrassing yourself" ? do you mean self-deprecation? well yes, that's a way of overcoming social awkwardness. it's an ice breaker, especially when meeting strangers. show them you have a sense of humor about yourself.
"Never to talk about yourself is a refined form of hypocrisy."

Yeah, this is part of cognitive behavioural theraphy. But you just don't intentionally embarress yourself, you go into that embarrassing situation with a new set of believes.
Also you need to learn how to relax in such situations beforehand.

this place must have a asperger density greater than any other forum on the interwebs (with the exception of watmm).

As well, I think I was trying to embarrass myself in this scenario by coming across as somewhat incompressible. I was trying to make the post an example in and of itself in and of itself in internet land.

There is a huge diffrence between social phobics and aspergers patients.

yes, i agree. exaggerations, irony and understatements often become misunderstood on the internet.
i was exaggerating the amount of aspergers on xltronic. there might be as few as 100 or as many as 600.
i'm not exactly sure about the numbers though. with that said i'd be thoroughly intrigued and interested if you'd care to elaborate further about the difference between social phobics and aspergers patients.

Aspergers patients are more intelligent and less whiny than social phobics.

I thought about this some more. If you embarrase yourself, you are actually doing something to yourself internally!
It maybe like botteling up anger, once you find some kind of opportunity, you let it all out.
But your own thoughts are the reason you feel embarrased...and not the situation itself.

I like to come here every so often, post an inane comment, then about twenty minutes later find myself squirming with embarrassment.I know I'm doing it.It's completely intentional.
