I hear you but I do actually think 2010 was worse. (born
'73).

as long as there's one good movie/album/ep out, that adds to
the existing pile of good stuff. what's the point of
ranking? you'll have access to everything made previously
still. that being said, i think 2011 was just fine. quite a
few great albums out too.. machinedrum - room(s) and
legowelt - the TEAC life are highlights for me.
photodementia fig. 3 and aleksi's mental union pt 2 will be
grand as well, for certain.

as for movies, melancholia was fantastic, good enough to
create a fond remembrance of 2011 by itself.

That's a good point... except that I feel like I burned
through all the best shit way too fast. While I've really
enjoyed a dozen or so new albums in the past 5 years, I
haven't been blown away by a single piece of music
since Proem's You Shall Have Ever Been pt. 1 ('06).

i still find music that blows me away, whether it's
completely new or 50 years old. it depends on the observer i
suppose.

Yeah I'm just talking new stuff. I can still recapture that
old intensity any time I fire up 54 Cymru Beats or Zeiss
Contarex. I'm just greedy and want LOTS more.

I'll check out your movie recommendation for Melancholia.
It'd be hard for one movie to save an abysmal season, but
the synopsis looks intersting.

There were loads of albums I really liked this year!

Wagon Christ - Toomorrow
Bjork - Biophilia
Myths - The Myth
Kate Bush - 50 Words For Snow
Thundercat - The Golden Age of Apocalypse
Daphne Oram - The Oram Tapes Volume One
Radiohead - The King Of Limbs
Radiohead - TKOL 1234567
DMX Krew - Sound of The Street
Beastie Boys - Hot Sauce Committee Part Two
David Lynch - Crazy Clown Time
Boom Bip - Zig Zaj

That's off the top of my head. Best year in a while
personally though.

dunno about movies though, I don't find unique and
interesting movies that often. I'm not much of a movie man
either, ha.

2010 was a slightly better year for releases in my opinion.
But this year was a great year, a GREAT year for
torturegarden.

i think i didn't listen to a single release from 2011. i
(re-)discovered lots of great classical music, though.
shostakovich and his students galina ustvolskaya and sofia
gubaidulina, for instance. also some early baroque music.
... i love the internet for enabling you to get tons of
music from the past 1000 years and you don't even have to
put much effort into it.

Good and evil will never defeat eachother but rather blend
and settle into some sort of midway compromise which
probably resembles something like universal DMV beauracracy,
however you spell that.
