Guybrush? Ophecks?
Does it hold up on the philosophy, conspiracies, politics? Is it a true Deus Ex game? Is it cyberpunk?
No spoilers, please. I feel motivated enough to buy myself a PS3 for this game (and Uncharted 2).

I haven't played it just yet.. still working my way through Demon's Souls (ps3). But from all the reviews I've read, it's very true to the orig and definitely cyberpunky.
As it's a first person shooter, I would heartily recommend playing it on PC over PS3 if at all possible.

I bought myself a PS3 and the game. It has to be the most expensive game I've ever had.
Unfortunately, I could never play this on my old laptop-computer.

Hired it out the other week for the ps3, not a bad game at all even considering the last FPS I tried was duke nukem:forever (pretty easy to top). Felt like it had a good stealth feel a la MGS4 with the depth of the variable mission approach of the original PC release. I had trouble getting my head around the hacking once it started increasing in difficulty though. I'm sure if I took the time to read all the details it would become a bit more clearer and easier though)
I got enough gameplay to keep me busy on the PS3 for a while but If you give it a chance I would be surprised if you don't see the value in it. I'm not surprised that it's getting quality reviews.

It's really good, an easy 8/10. It's a tiny bit simplified compared to the original, but so many things are improved that it didn't bother me. I don't miss anything especially because what I mainly remember from the first game are horrible graphics (even for the time), embarassing voice acting and an infantile story.

spoilers:
it is indeed a good game, very MGS:esque. the mythology on the other hand needed some fleshing out. the daedalus-icarus mythology is basically inexistent, as is the renaissance theme. throughout the whole game i felt like something big was going to happen, and had hoped for some singularity-transcendence philosophizing, or some political theories - but it had none of that. also i would have wanted to be able to work for different organizations (illuminati, the triads, the harvesters, belltower, tai yong, etc). lastly i had hoped for some religious references (the city on a hill, the templars, morpheus).
i'd give it a 7/10.
