A little xltronic discussion

offline Junktion from Northern Jutland (Denmark) on 2011-01-07 16:00 [#02403379]

So, I see my own lack of activity in here, since the
overflow of other social-sites has a grab on my balls.
And the online users in here (6 right now - me inclusive),
might be a status of the inevitable death of xltronic - not
that I want xltronic to die, but it kinda seems obvious - i
mean, the donations doesn't really cut it right now.

My question is - how could we keep xltronic alive, through
other sites? Could we manage to collect all oldschool
xltronic users on one social site, for xltronic discussions
and memorabilia? Would that be tasteful, if so?

Anyway - I miss the old days in here, but it just isn't so
anymore. I used to come in here for updates on the latest in
Xltronic-music - before that, in the aphextwin.nu days, it
was with one single artist, as the ground-stone for all
following discussions, and interests. Now, it seems the
updates are few, and the on-topic discussion limited.

I salute the whole xltronic-team, for keeping on so many
years, and for starting a thing, that in some xltronic users
was (or still is) a big part of our lives.

.

nice song..

just visit xlt more often and you'll see this place is still
alive..I do miss some off the old peeps too but some are
still here and some visit this place now and then. Also
there are still some good on topic discussions but you are
right about the updates: these are less than back in the old
days.

yeah - the updates kinda kept the action alive.

I know if i used some more time in here, I would probly' get
a glimse of some life, but I might want it do be more joined
with the other medias

good question..they tried twitter but that didn't work. I
think we are stuck to this place as it comes to the xltronic
social network..a shame most of the old folks left the place

yeah - they (xlt) need a new entry-poing I think. Maybe
categories? And a new design?

i believe this is just a short lull before a massive boom

a fucking insanely massive boom that's going to blow your
face (and balls) off

i wondering what kind of social-sites would grab your balls,
because, well... i'd like my balls to be grabbed as well
from time to time.

/disclaimer: this is not some plot to discover new
social-sites. I just want my BALLS to be grabbed by total
strangers from time to time. for free!

;D

Facebook is the obvious answer, it's also the wrong answer.
Yahoo groups could be done, but isn't ideal either.

Best bet is to buy some webspace and have a simple message
board, like what we have now.

I think some sort of user moderation could work, possibly by
having assignable tags. To a certain extent people do this
anyway with the self imposed spam flags. Having some sort of
"tag cloud" would be useful... oh and a search function!

The main problem is that there's not much interesting stuff
happening in the music scene compared to a few years ago.

Also a decade ago we were all getting decent home internet
connections and discovering lots of new music. Obviously
this rate of discovery will run out quickly so suddenly
threads about the same old tracks are boring.
EVERYONE has Hangable Auto Bulb now whereas 10 years ago
most people said hangable auto what? And .nu/zilty gave the
answer.

If you're an old-school member, then why not stick around
and try to improve the place? I think all it will take is to
get a few of the old people back and there will be bass, red
bull, ltj bukem and the crowd will give thansk.

Why dont you get and admin to email everyone asking them to
visit the forum on a certain date. Like a meet up or some
shit.

Anyway, who cares.

"The main problem is that there's not much interesting

I don't think there's a problem with music really. It's just
that people/generations of listeners come and go (!) Most
probably old xlters spend more time in real life, probably
now have families, more babies or more kittens (!) and/or
got bored with internet social sites grabbing their balls.
And the next wave of (electronic) music listeners is
choosing to be grabbed by their balls by facebook, NOT
xltronic.

There is plenty interesting happening in the music scene,
however IDM as it was when this site was in heavy use has
kind of bored everyone to tears. The only common denominator
amongst users here is trolling.

peoples listening and discovering days end in a way,
but also their habits. i dont know if its the same with many
of
you or lost xlt´ers. but it may be easier to find out a lot
about genres, similar artists etc by now without xlt. also i
myself have stopped listening to 6 new albums a day (and
deleting at least half of them again) and dwell more amounts
of many favourite artists back-catalogues, and not starting
new threads on old albums.
on the other hand i never used the forum that much to find
new music. i mainly wanted to be in touch for new releases
of favourite artists and their shows/parties.

anyhow what i have found here and still have (mainly in
slsk-chat) is a whole bunch of friends.
also i love to use this board to let me recommend stuff.

to end this mega-post, i agree on this site being what we
make of it. we dont need another one but if the site was
killed somehow id say just open a xlt-room on soulseek to
not lose each other.

may the beat be with you, always

oh and a search function and tags might really help to
livley up some music discussion. as it is now talking about
a recently released album is even hard, if you havent
bookmarked the thread also opening new threads for older
releases, i dunno,
what do you lot think about that?

- same here, more or less. in my case it's more like looking
for interesting stuff in the past than checking for new
releases, these days especially. there's a few really fresh
and interesting releases coming each year compared to tons
of good music I still have no clue about and most probably
will never have the time to check them all...which is a bit
sad but blah blah blah

idea. I just created the room "Xltronic", just join and
don't forget to toggle autojoin.
