Well I saw it tonight, in IMAX 3d, and well?.....

well, its FUN

I use the word "fun" very loosely....Great moments of 3D
(the bikes) but other than that, you will probably walk out
with the feel of "whatever". Nothing groundbreaking yet
visually very fun at times.

Suggestion: Smoke a nice spliff before going, it makes it
more tolerable.

Funny thing is, I kept picturing "The Dude" whenever Bridges
had lines...too funny.

cheers!

good lord did this suck. maybe if you went in without
knowledge of the first movie it would have been
entertaining, but all i saw were mountains of missed
opportunities.

fans of the original remember the computer world of tron
where everything was made of LIGHT. green glowing boxes
floated around with nary a worry to physics.

in tron legacy, it's all just a bunch of shit with el-wire
on it. the ships had ENGINES which you could see moving the
AIR around then. WTF? this is TRON. why is there air?? the
whole point is it's a world inside a computer, things like
physics mean nothing.

and they skipped pretty much all the synesthetic aspects of
the original. remember in the original how they would walk
through black nothingness except with each step their shoes
lit up another floor piece, which was accompanied by a
pleasing BLEEP? none of that here. everything in this world
is just made of stone with glowy lights. this is not TRON.

not to mention that they skipped out on things like the glow
emanating from each character implying something about their
mood (glowing brightly when they're mad, dimmer when
drained) or having any kind of awesome non-corporeal villain
like the MCP. and the transition of entering the tron world
went from a 3 minute psychedelic wormhole geekfest to not 3
seconds of pixelization.

which brings me to another point: there were a few points in
the movie where the effects did make me go "wow!"
unfortunately, these effects were so glossed over that they
hardly made an impact. in a movie which is supposed to be a
special fx feat, you spend about half the time staring at a
bunch of stupid giant heads (this seems to be an obnoxious
trend in 3d movies altogether - why directors love you being
able to see every pore in the actor's face is beyond me).

what the original TRON to me is a masterpiece of moving
imagery - every scene is designed to be looked at, adored -
each frame is a work of art. Tron: legacy is a travesty of
fx masturbation without taking any useful cues from the br

brilliant original.

and ps i was on lsd and smoked hella bowls before going in,
and it still didn't look all that cool. impressively
realistic, sure, but not pleasing to the eye. avatar did a
whole lot better in terms of eye candy.

I haven't seen the new one, but... from what I have
seen, the original is much stronger with regard to stylistic
intention. I was kind of disappointed that the new one
looks the way it does, because it just seems like any other
CGI film.

However, the explanation for the graphics is that they're
based on advancements in computer technology-- i.e. 80's
graphics look from 80's computers, and 10's graphics look
from the 10's computers. This is actually a flaw in
thinking, though, because TRON IS NOT REAL. They missed
that Tron was STYLIZATION and not some graphical
demonstration of an era, per se. I thought pushing the
limit with retro-future CGI would've been awesome. But
hopefully the story or some other thing will make me not sad
about it.

in the movie.

Legacy's upgrade only amplifies the lameness of the original
minus its time - capsule likeability.

the 3D experience was awful. all that flickering shit
buzzing in and out of the screen... i hated all of that
shit. because of tron legacy, avatar and clash of the titans
i am hesitant to see a 3D movie ever again.

the overall mood of the new envisioned Tron world was
pleasurable, but there were no details, no real distinct
memorable "style" like the original. nothing shows the
disconnection between the old movie and the new movie than
the fucking re-imagining of the solar sailer device/ship,
which is just the same thing as the one in the 1982 film,
but in the 2010 film it's blue, black and neon.

and i'm not saying the 2 films even needed to have the same
art style, or scope. a well-written book would have been
fine. it's just obvious that those attached to the new film
are suffering from Lucas Syndrome. I should not have to
explain what "lucas syndrome" is . watch star wars ep. 1-3

i liked jeff bridges. he was good. all the other actors =
forgettable. phoned in performances. whatever. hope you had
fun on the set. i'm glad you got paid. whatever. let's
assume the original never existed. tron: legacy would still
be really bad, even without comparing.

what about the soundtrack ? as much as i don't want to see
T:L again (ok, maybe once again just for The Dude himself)
i've listened to the ost several times already. well done,
daft punks.

I can't really criticize your guy's opinions as I haven't
seen it. However, I am curious what you were expecting when
you went to it in the first place.

honestly, i was hoping for the above music video, but 3d.
something that actually took into account the awesome art
direction of the first film, not that over saturated
poopshow.

ps the daft punk soundtrack is enjoyable on its own, but
just like everything else, was executed poorly in the film.
the musical cues made no sense at all.

the whole thing just lacked any sense of pacing. as one
review i read said, there is the same level of intensity in
the film during the talking head scenes as during the fight
sequences.

its a pretty film
stories a bit thin
there is two fit birds one blonde one dark haired

i bought the soundtrack its very anthemic and orchestra i
love it

its better than the film

it took me 3 light cycles (3 viewings, actually) to start
enjoying the film (visuals+story) - only because I got it in
a 2dvd edition box together with the prequel. not that
great, but just OK. I guess if it wasn't for Bridges and his
lines I wouldn't be that eager to watch from time to time.

today I bought me the OST on CD and heard it on train going
through mountain scenery in sunshine. awesome.

Yah, it took me a couple/few times to really get into it, as
well. Before watching it, I was kind of sad of the drastic
change of stylization, but it's apparent that they worked
all the shit out cuz it does totally work. The OST is
great, but I've only heard it from the film. I just watch
the film on loop and pretend I'm listening to an album.

Visuals, narrative, conceptually- just all around preeetty
solid film.

Haha, I actually wrote in this thread, back in the day...

The thing about the physics, is-- The whole TRON world is
consciousness projected in the context of a computer world.
So the characters and everything are not really there, but
the world we're shown is how it's perceived by the humans
(due to using analogous understanding from Earth).

This idea is alluded to in the intro, where Bridges is
talking about how he imagined what the grid would look
like.

The deeper aspects of the film are related to consciousness
itself, and how "our world" is actually the same as TRON--
senses and thought trying to make sense out of abstract
data.
