lots of bass whatsoever, it was at this club called
"firlej" in Wroclaw thats got a rep for having the best one
too. apparently the
fuse in it wasn't busted or something. there was lots of
bass, a beautiful wall of sound. two guitars, bass, tarzan
playing percussion. and powerful drums.
crowd and gira approved, crowd gave thansk and
come-backs, crowd leaves, and btw before the show obara with
mate sees gira standing in the falling snow behind the club
wearing cowboy hat drinking beer and smoking cigar. we said
"good evening" and "excuse me" but he said "please, later,
after the show" or stuff. so we didn't buy gira a red bull
and didn't talk about ableton live or japan but bought us
some cool t-shirts, mine has dollar symbol and "holy money
holy love" printed.

see for yourself

great show

i never could get into this band, but i'm willing to give
them a second try. the first time around the religious
overtones were a bit too much for me to swallow...

anyway, i'm willing to look past that now. where's a good
place to start, obara? what's your favorite albums by them?

the albums i wanted to come back to right away when i first
heard about swans tour were 'die tur ist zu', 'love of life'
and of course (?) (maybe it's their most successful/famous
one) 'children of god'.

those 3 are quite different in mood/style. 'die tur ist zu'
sounds in part like my perfect swans concert. 'love of life'
has a bunch of strong tracks. it has "songs" on it, as
compared to earliest records which are sort of chaotic,
loud, industrial....raw sounding. and 'children of god' is
the first album i got to hear from them, therefore the first
strong impact from about ~18 years ago is still strong.

so, that's roughly about what i'd recommend. it really
depends on your current musical mood. if you want harsh - go
to earliest records. if you wanna go light - start from 1989
and 'burning world', their most accessible album methinks.

and, if you don't like female vocals or, specifically,
Jarboe's moaning pisses you off - you gonna skip through the
90s albums.

and the latest album....it sounds like swans trying to go
back to their 80s. i quite enjoyed it on the first listen.

there you go

thanks for the round up.

i'm not into no wave / industrial stuff atm, so i'll check
out burning world. merci.

Was well into Swans in the 90s. Still enjoy them or Angels
of Light from time to time. Saw them twice, once in 94 and
again in 96.

The Great Annihilator is a good one and would be my
recommendation as a starting point. Burning World has some
good tracks but has a very early 90s dated kind of sound.
It makes me think of the bands Extreme or Crash Test
Dummies. Love of Life is certainly very good as well as
others mentioned.
