After listening to this album right now, and in the
spririt of ARCH's topic....

EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL rule!!!

I am drawing a line in the sand now, I would hate to hear
anyone dispute that:

Amplified Heart
Walking Wounded
Temperamental
and even
Back to Mine

are VERY good albums....
LOL...I hope there are some other EBTG lovers
here...Anyone?? Bueller? Bueller?

Yep, I've loved em since they first got together...I've even
got a tape of Tracy Thorn when she was an All girl group
before she met Ben...

They've had loads of different stages tho...Some kinda
Smiths-like, some very Jazzy & countrynWestern...

but yeah, I fucking love em...the new dancey stuff is great
even if his DnB was a little weak...

Right on Jand.....

Her acoustic cover of Springsteen's "Tougher Than the Rest"
is sooooo beautiful.

Her voice just makes me go weak at the knees...I always had
a secret crush on her since I was a teenager..

Ever read Patient by Ben Watt?..He's the guy in the band and
was very very at deaths door Ill for a while and this is the
tale...it's good read, if a little depressing...

But at least he doesn't die in the end...

Same thing as Beth Orton wasn't it? Something to do with the
digestive system I think.

Jand: is that book any good?

I love Missing so much. She's probably my favourite female
vocalist.

Anyone got the Lazy Dog comps? I've a DJ mix he did on the
radio of deep house. His remix of Sade's 'By Your Side' is
class. I'm really into the deep house sound he plays.

Apparently he plays a drum n bass set at Grooverider's (or
is it Fabio?) club every month and the Groove plays a deep
house set at his. Cool eh?

also, the song SINGLE....man, how haunting and
meloncholic...reminds me of real LOST loves....It evokes the
PERFECT broken up or lst love feeling....

yeah, the book is ok...he gets a mystery illness and
basically his whole body just collaspes and he has bits of
digestive system removed etc...not that nice reading really
but an interesting story...

Check out their early albums as well before they went all
dancy with the remix of Missing & the Walking Wounded
album...I really liked their Smiths period stuff (LOVE NOT
MONEY album, I think...) but I was a rabid Smiths fan in my
teenage years...

What was all that stuff about Morrissey being a nazi/racist?
Was there anything to it? I wasn't around at the time so to
speak.

I've got Eden but have never listened to it. Someone gave it
to me.

i think Morrisey has a bit of a fascination with
nationalists. He has that song "National Front Disco",
right?

EDEN is their first album... real jazzy stuff...you'll
probably like it...

All that stuff about Morrissey was kinda wack...but yeah, he
was flirting with some pretty odd areas.."Nationskinheads &
draping yourself with the Union Jack at a Madness concert
etc...

Think it was the NME who really got the boot in & made more
of it than it really was...M was pretty intelligent guy and
a lot of what he wrote about went over a lot of people head;
I don't think the NME knows the meaning of the word Irony
really...too PC for their own good I guess..

I used to religionsly buy it every week for years & years
and it had it's moments...

But any I've picked up in the last few years have felt a bit
like a comic....where has all the good writing gone?..You
used to have people like Julie Burchill, Tony Parsons, Paul
Morley...real writers.....

nowdays its just a glorified Smash Hits ... whether this is
due to a)me getting older b) NME getting shite or c) The
indie & dance scenes going overground big style , I really
don't know... probably a combination of the 3...

I used to buy it and occasionally pick it up. Its a rip off
though and they hike up the price every few months. I took
to nicking it from Tescos for a while because I resented
paying for it.

Its getting worse with more pictures and fuck all reviews.
The only thing I like is 7 magazine.

Give me Smash Hits any day. I hate intellectuals.

Get this dude: while in Blackpool at the National Union of
Students conference a group of tits and myself were sat
around the hotel restaurant table eating dinner when the
others, knowing I was a Trotskyist and they were Labour
students, started to wind me up about class. We all stated
our social class and the reasons why and this total dufus
said "I'm part of the intelligensia because my dad is a
lecturer" without a hint of irony.

if you wanna hear the real avnt-garde stuff, The Wire is
your one....

And Jonesy...you fall into that Intelliegensia camp...don't

Have you chked the ENO remixes of Protection, they are a

Nah, I'm descended from the manual working class despite my
pretentions.

I still haven't given those Eno mixes a good listen. I've
got the MA singles box set but, after three years, have yet
to go through it properly. I love the Perfecto mix of Safe
from Harm, used in Heat.
