What is your top 5 disturbing movies ?

I just watched ; A Serbian Film : serbian film
was pretty awesome so my list at this point of my miserable
life of movies seeing is :

5 : the brood (David Cronenberg)
4 : lost highway (David Lynch)
3 : the human centipede ( Tom Six)
2 : a serbian film ( Srdjan Spasojevic)
1 : society ( Brian Yuzna)

Yeah

I think no movie will beat Society......
But A serbian film IS pretty awesomely disturbing tho !

What is your list ?

ok so I forgot a lot of movies this list is kinda shitty but
it's what I've thought of at first.
I could have add anything from Michael Haneke not only his
well known movies like funny games and Benny's video but
also : Caché, la pianiste, 71 fragments of an hazardeous
chronology.... and then Donnie Darko by Richard Kelly.
Requiem for a dream by Darren Aronofsky. Tideland by Terry
Gilliam. Then disturbing but very fresh : where the wild
things are by Spike Jonze......

Are you sure these are supposed to be disturbing? I have
only seen about half of the titles you listed, none of them
are really that disturbing at all.

Inland Empire by David Lynch

Sick: The Life and Death of Bob Flanagan (for entirely
different reasons to the Lynch film)

The Isle by Kim-Ki Duk.

Here's another great film he's done,
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring .

He's up there, with Miyazaki, Oshii, and the others.

thanks for the 'society' recommendation. that's about the
only one i hadn't seen mentioned in this thread. cool
ending. i love oldskool prosthetics.

i dont feel that id have much to contribute, seeing as most
of you guys are movie buffs and have seen all cronenberg and
lynch have served up.

trying to think.. no disturbing films come to mind but some
real good ones do in the mindfuck variety.

Franklyn
Possible Worlds

as for that old style prosthetic stuff, the comedy drop dead
fred was pretty awesome.

umm. yeah, just signed in to say society was a good one.
thanks again.

Tetsuo the iron man
Naked lunch
gummo
Man bites dog
the holy mountain
un chein andelou (short)

anything by Bunuel and Jodorowsky for sure, to most people
the ones mentioned above would be pretty disturbing..

The Last House on the Left.
The House at the Edge of the Park.
Straw Dogs.
But the most disturbing thing Ive ever heard( because I
wouldnt watch it but my mate wouldnt turn it off) has to be
Wolf Creek.
I wish my brain had an erase function.

Cronenberg's Dead Ringers hasn't been mentioned yet. And of
course all of his movies. I like that he started to make
'normal' movies now, because they're still fucked up! For
instance History of Violence.

Excellent topic, some additions:

Martyrs
Santa Sangre
The Children
Inside

A strong second on Visitor Q, seriously fucked up shit right
there.

ah yes ! The Children is cool ! But I thought Martyrs was
seriously ridiculous and totally not disturbing at all.

about this one...

Someone has already mentioned this movie, but it really
needs more attention as the most "disturbing film"

So I've watched visitor Q last night and it was quite cool.
Not really disturbing visualy but psychologicaly yes for
sure. The lacting part was a bit too long but I know japanes
people cant get away with sexual deviance...

Also watched 3 guys and 1 hammer out of curiosity and
thought the only disturbing side is the gurgling sound the
poor victim makes. And it's not disturbing it's sick to
think people can do this for fun... And it's quite funny to
realize hollywood cannot replicate violence this good. Also
think it's amazing and disturbing that we can watch that
kind of stuff over the internet... I've also read comments
on that video that made me shiver, like you can actually
read the words of people that find it funny and enjoyable to
watch... :O

Thanks for your recommendations keep them coming !
