Never enough music!

I never have enough music. Today alone I bought two CDs
and burned four additional ones. I have very limited space
to keep all my stuff and it's constantly needing to be
reorganized. I have more music than ever but it's still not
enough!

I don't buy music. My main concern is buying a new hard
drive so I can fit MORE MORE MORE on my computer.

I've got like a gig of MP3s that I haven't even got around
to listening to, it's overwhelming, and exciting...

I have a mixture of money and CD-Rs and I've learned how to
stretch it a long way. Used CDs, big stores like Best Buy,
etc. Occasionally I spend more on double-disc sets or
must-have new releases.

that's what i need, a new hard drive. but laptop hard
drives are too expensive... i constantly got to delete
stuff that i didnt get a chance to listen to. what a drag.

hahahaha That happens to me all the time, Ophecks. I
download things and actually forget about them before I just
load my entire mp3 directory in winamp on shuffle and come
across a nice surprise!

i know what you mean, even if i buy a bundle of cds one day
i still dont feel like im satiated, though in ways i
certainly am to have new music..I used to buy a new cd every
week even without a job, i'm having withdrawls now, i'll
have to buy something soon :)

i've never been a fan of mp3's. i want the sound to be 100%
clean and pure.

I usually do get at least one CD a week.
And often more than that. Some weeks it's overwhelming how
much I need!
I wish I had a big enough hard drive and a fast enough
processor to hold all my music. I'd like to make mp3s of my
entire collection. That would require a lot more.

As far as mp3 quality goes, I find that with at least 128k,
the difference is so slight that you'd never know it.

I usually download an album that I think might be good, then
if I like it after a few listens, I'll probably buy it

Yeah, fuck, I have to delete things all the time to make
room for more... but I'll be getting 20 more gigs this week,
so that'll be the end of that!!!

can some people actually tell the difference between cds and
quality mp3s? i sure cant.

I also think mp3s are great for expanding audiences. For
instance, I probably never would've gotten into Autechre if
it hadn't been for mp3s. I've never seen an actual autechre
release--I only have CD-Rs of their stuff.

When you get up to 256 and 320 kbs, I don't notice a damn
thing, really. I have the official, ''real'' Drukqs double
CD, and a personal mix without the filler, and they're
indistinguishable from each other, even with nice
headphones.

Spooky: i have to disagree with you there. 128 k mp3's are
shit. you can tell by the sound of the hi-hats.

The answer is to make music.

offline Spookyluke from United States on 2002-04-08 03:22 [#00161758]

The only time I've been able to tell the difference is
between vinyl and mp3. Mp3s sourced from vinyl usually
don't sound as crisp as those from CD. But that's not a
bitrate question at all.

If I download an album and I really like it alot, I feel
obliged to buy an actual copy of it, if for nothing else to
support the artist and give them my vote of addmiration for
making an album I really enjoy. But thats just me.

I do make music, but it's seldom good enough ahahhahaa

i'm sure you're capable of making self satisfying music.
for me i just got to be very sensitive the emotions i try to
convey.

I don't like anything below 160Kbps as far as mp3s go. I
mean, i'll listen to it, but the low quality is noticable.
But you can never have too much music!

offline Spookyluke from United States on 2002-04-08 03:27 [#00161767]

I don't think buying a record actually supports the artist
so much. Most of the sales come from selling to stores and
chains and such, and then from there the chains and the
record label split the profit. Right?

offline jupitah from Minneapolis (United States) on 2002-04-08 03:29 [#00161769]

so the other option is... burn the tunes and send a
donation?

offline jupitah from Minneapolis (United States) on 2002-04-08 03:30 [#00161771]
Points: 3489 Status: Lurker

sometimes, even when i can't notice the difference, the mere
idea that my mp3s are less than perfect quality makes me
just buy the music.

offline Spookyluke from United States on 2002-04-08 03:30 [#00161772]
Points: 1955 Status: Lurker

I'm not saying 128k is ideal, I just think 128 is the point
where mp3s are good enough. The music I make I prefer to
encode at 192k. That's big enough to preserve the quality
quite well and it makes everything sound hmm fresh.

The music I do get around to making satisfies me, but
doesn't fulfill me.

They don't make money if no one buys their records, I know
that.

offline Spookyluke from United States on 2002-04-08 03:34 [#00161777]

I think music would be much better if everyone worried more
about making music than making money.

how could music be any better? there are more good artists
than i'll ever come close to discovering.

offline Spookyluke from United States on 2002-04-08 03:37 [#00161780]

I think some good artists make bad music because it's what
people want to hear. For instance, I think The Fragile has
some tracks Trent made just for sales. Namely, Starfuckers,
Inc.

I think the same of Radiohead's recent comments that they
may lean toward a more-acoustic style album. It sounds to
me like instead of trying to forge ahead they're going back
to The Bends kind of thing to attract more fans. I hope
not.

I also hope not, but I'm not too big on Radiohead so I
wouldn't cry too hard.
