Apparently it's pretty much an abstract/drone/noise/avant
garde album. No beats. :(

though

looking forward to it. i like all three of them. vainio just
put out a compilation of some live pieces.. a double album i
think, cool stuff.

i talked to vainio and vaisanen couple of months ago.. they
don't say much : ) but the new album is going to be
brilliant, mark my words. probably delivers everything for
people who wanted new autechre to be beats oriented!

Yes, yes, highly recommended!

My order of recommendation:

Grischa Lichtenberger - Treibgut (R-N 112)
NHK - Unununium (R-N 111)
Aoki Takamasa - RN-Rhythm-Variations (R-N 113)
Mika Vainio - Vandal (R-N 114)

They all pretty much kick ass, but I expected more from
Vaino I must admit.

offtop

nah dood. have you read my posts in the "initial
impressions" topic ? it's a bit of the "apples and oranges"
thing.

i mean i am a autechre fanboi, i will be raving and
screaming my ass off in the first line in berlin next month
even if they will play two hours of mixed static sounds and
i will be excited with every next album but that doesn't
mean change the fact that oversteps just isn't my thing.

autechre have long ago passed the point of abstraction where
it's just not possible anymore to review them objectively. i
would even say that they are at the point where reviewing
them is quite utterly useless.

it's a bit like that famous painting with the black
rectangle on a white sheet. we both know that it's art and
that it's hell of a piece of art. but the thing is that i
might like it, you don't. and we could start talking about
it but what is there to talk about when there is a fucking
black rectangle on a white sheet.

let's just say that album doesn't suit me. along with
confield which i haven't listened to the whole thing in one
part ever i have to admit.

of course there is the slight chance of a hoax. but it's a
damn good hoax then. it's so good i will never listen to
autechre again should it really be fake because i obviously
don't know what autechre is then.

end off offtop

tolstoyed how come that you are making those interviews ?
these are some big names.

i'm curious what you think of vladislav. i absolutely love
that guy. have seen him in poland three times, two times
with agf who i had a longer chat with. i love how the whole
family is an "act" in itself wherever they go.

i have to try to convince my friend to upload an interview
he made with autechre two years ago before their liveset. it
was recorded on classic tape and they where talking mostly
about drukqs and art.

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2010-02-10 11:32 [#02366000]

dunno.. there's no one else at the station following this
kinf od music and people say i usually ask nice questions so
the editor assigns me for it.. i make interviews with
'bigger names' but they're not that interesting for the
xltronic crowd maybe : )

i can't find pan sonic one i made recently.. and some other
ones.. ehh
this saturday im doing an interview with jackson and his
computer band i think and then next week with luke slater..

i liked delay in the past quite a bit.. i don't like stuff
with agf much and i loved him in von oswald trio.. it's a
shame von oswald was doing noise in the background while i
talked to sasu.. he had more interesting things to say than
moritz, but then again moritz was really kind and agreed to
do the iinterview even though he's having physical problems
after the stroke..

actually i am impressed that you made an interview with
moritz at all. they are super-rare.

okay so i assume that you work at a radio-station then?
didn't know that. cool stuff.

Points: 50073 Status: Moderator | Followup to sadist: #02366003

yeah, been at the radio station for about 5 years now i
think..

moritz was really kind yeah.. it was one of those interviews
where you just ask some standard questions.. when i asked
couple more 'complex' ones he politly said he'd rather not
get into those.. i think he has quite hard time
concentrating.. he even has troubles breathing, so it was
really super kind of him to answer those few.

tim hecker was really nice to talk to though.. and brian
from animal collective.. eric from black dice.. and sean
ofcourse.. i took an hour of his time and instead of telling
me to wrap it up he asked a few more 'private' questions in
the end.. about xltronic too : )

he had a stroke, but is playing live with his trio now..
though now louderbach took over stuff moritz was doing
before the stroke as now he can only use one hand. he has
troubles walking, talking.. but seems in a good spirit which
is really nice to see.

cool shit in this thread is happening.

Moritz Von Oswald Trio, i enjoyed their live show quite a
bit and was wondering what was up with Moritz. He was barely
moving, i thought it was just something with a leg or the
hip though.

Dude, really sorry to break it to you but it's much more in
the way of the Hafler Trio + Ae collabs than Untilted or
anything like that. Some people have posted short reviews up
on other forums saying there's just a lot of tonal work,
clicks, other odd noises, nothing really rhythmical. If it
were clicks in the style of Nicolai or Ikeda, then great,
but they aren't :(

I was hoping for a real beat-based album after hearing all
the stuff Matsunaga + Vainio did solo. But no.

I would love to hear your Pan Sonic interview if you somehow
find it in the future. Do you have any news on the new LP?
The Blast First site still says it will be released in
January and the rumor is that it's their last cd. Can you
fill us in on anything?

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2010-02-11 13:24 [#02366280]

yeah, i think they said it should be out in january, but you
know how these things go.. and i think they said they will
take a break (though this was unoficial).. i think they're
fed up with one another or something.. they didn't speak to
each other the whole time and after we finished the
interview they both went in their separate ways.. and they
flew in separately as well. it was funny; when i got there
to make the interview the promotor was like "wtf? do you
happen to know if they talk to each other? since they got
here they didn't say a word.." : )
but.. the music they played (supposedly from the new album)
was some of the nicest (post)techno i've ver heard. truly
brilliant, so i hope they get over their personal issues (if
that indeed is the case), because they're one of the most
original electronic artists.. they played at transmediale
just now, so it can't be all that bad.. i hope.. i'll see if
i can find the interview!

Wow, that's good news!
http://www.phinnweb.org/panasonic/news/ says their final
gigs were in December last year. I can't find anything on
the Transmediale website about them playing, but if they did
then that's a good sign they aren't through.

Someone kindly shared this record with me. It is nothing
like I had expected. It is nothing like I could have
imagined either. To be honest I find it utterly ridiculous;
something close to a (bad) joke. I see boomkat is trying
hard to make it sound interesting but it really isn't. It
almost sounds like something I could have recorded with my
two portable cassette radios when I was 10. Flat and
uninteresting...

yep, it's like anti-music.

individually, they're some of my favourite artists, but this
collab is just self-indulgent wank really.

a shame really, as i'd love to hear what they'd make
together if they actually put in some effort.

I agree, it's anti-music. But I've heard way better
anti-music than this. I would go as far as to call this an
anti-record. An anti-release, if you like.
