The game takes place at an unknown point in a dystopian
future in Australia, where the Earth has been significantly
damaged by pollution or nuclear fallout. Robert Foster is an
innocent outsider stranded in a vast city where oppressed
civilians live and work in soaring tower blocks... while the
corrupt, covetous and rich lie underground, shielded from
all pollution. Alone, save for a robot circuit board, Foster
must fight for survival... and discover the sinister truth
behind his abduction.

Best game of all time!alltime

I've played a lot of adventure games, but somehow this one
slipped past my radar. Will check this out, thanks.

can you explain how you got it working? I downloaded beneath
a steal sky, ran the exe it came with, it made a couple
folders that don't really have much in them, I copied all
the files into ScummVM folder as per the readme
instructions, and then tried adding the game from every
folder I could, and it says it can't find anything. I'm
using vista 64-bit, is that the problem?

I went all the way "up" as far as I could and tried to add
the game at every stage and it says it cant find it. when i
run the BaSS exe it says something about putting a gog.com
folder in my program files, which is where im assuming the
game files would be, but I can't find that folder either. :(

also ive tried running the exe as both win 98 and winxp
compatibility, and as an administrator, to no avail. :(

the installer installs like one file and then says:

"Unrecognized game target: 'beneath
Usage: [OPTIONS] ... [GAME]

try '--help' for more options"

I just ran it on vista, though I don't know if it makes any
difference that I have dosbox installed.

I got fucking stuck after going out the door and then
couldn't get back in. Tsssh.

error here at all. I'm just clicking on an .exe and it
fails, what should I be doing differently?

no, it seems to be having trouble extracting the files to
programfiles\gog.com. I'm assuming that's where the files
that I'm supposed to copy into scummvm are intended to go,
but the folder just isn't there. oh well.

Oh, well done. With contributions from samaritans
like yourself and a bit of luck, all forums on the internet
may yet degenerate into mirror sites for google.

I know that scummvm works in 64-bit. I'm asking if the
Beneath a Steel Sky installer unpacks properly in 64-bit
vista.

Would anyone else like to offer an annoyingly obvious
suggestion, or have you lot exhausted yourselves?

I don't have Vista 64 but games for scummvm are not exes so
I don't think they cannot work, scummvm is the executable if
it works then it's fine. I think your problem has to do with
gog.com version. try the version on this page:

I finally found a version of this game that ScummVM will
recognize. According to the FAQ page on ScummVm there are
very specific data files that must be present for ScummVM to
recognize the game, so I'm not really sure how anyone was
getting these .exe versions to work, at least not in version
1.0.

Anyway, it's a cool game. I like watching the characters
unhinge their jaws when they speak.

No not yet, I'm almost ground level I think. Is it a pretty
long game? The part where the LINC disposes of that security
officer trying to stop you was badass.

short.

He was right about the voice acting, too. I turned it off in
favor of the text-only mode. I actually prefer text to voice
acting in 99% of games, anyway, so turning it off didn't
bother me.

though. Sort of reminds me of this, one of the
worst trips you'll ever experience in a video game
