Tha is my first AFX ambient rave, still great and
mesmerizing, soothing and alluring. You do know, it's
generic of his girlfriend of the time, Saman-tha?

WHO KARES?

I mean we can all wonder what it would be.

Probably X synth, Y reverb, and Z drum machine/sampler and a
recording device.

Saman-tha is thanked on Surfing On Sine Waves, and credited
richly on (original CD edition of) SAW II.

if tha has a hidden meaning (saman-tha), does xtal stand
for richies' latex fetish?

Hmm, I always thought that "tha" was one of two syllables
typical for a TM-mantra. Makes more sense in my opinion..

well, is she really credited as saman-tha?

is that because of the recursive structure of the tracks?

yes, that certainly supports my theory, which is nothing but
speculation anyway. I was a bit into TM back when I
discovered SAWI so I just presumed that the title had
something to do with meditation. I often used Tha as a tool
for meditation and/or falling asleep. I don't know if Aphex
Twin was ever into TM but he did talk an awful lot about
lucid dreaming and composing track in his sleep in
interviews around that time, so..

i wouldn't think he's into that

it certainly usuable if you like music for you meditation (i
don't)

meditation is doing the same thing over and over and see, in
that case i'm willing to bet he's been into that.

Deeper in meditation, you will find non-exclusiveness,
unity.

>well, is she really credited as saman-tha?

On Sine Waves, a Samantha Robinson is presented as
photographer. Later in the credits, a Saman-tha is thanked.
In cryptic handwriting, Sam gets early, perhaps first thanks
on (Sire editioned) SAW II. Sam's also given premier "x-tra
life" on Pac-Man. My presumption is that she's an early,
stable and influential girlfriend. Photography became a
growing interest of RDJ.

well for me it's not, it's about thinking about nothing and
pure concentration
i don't deny doing the same thing over and over again as
well as making music (which is more progressive) can be
meditative

offline MASUGNEN from Lund (Sweden) on 2009-06-10 11:00 [#02296222]

Isn't thinking about nothing very substantial, everything
but empty, rather frequencing the existence, the mere pulse
of life?

offline mohamed from the turtle business on 2009-06-10 11:10 [#02296225]

or thinking things like..

'if i can be happy doing this, everybody can' or

'i wish everybody could be that happy' or

'i run a label and release people being happy doing the same
thing i did'

i agree with big's ears.

yes, very good :)

also you can't really think of nothing when you're on a bike
or something else people call meditative (also hard when
you're trying)

i have big ears
