Entertainment like Metal Gear Solid

Are there any animes or movies/television shows or other
forms of entertainment like the Metal Gear Solid saga?

I've been really into the House television seasons, but its
kind of like a soap opera every once in a while.

I've been looking for the same type of feel as the metal
gear story line, its hard to explain but i like that form of
entertainment, whatever it is, science fiction, anything
else like it? Preferably not so related to the gigantic
japanese robotic monsters-mobiles.

thanks

It's kind of hard to find any really close analogues, just
stuff with one element that Kojima incorporated into MGS...
it's like some insanely absurd mix of anime, Tom Clancy,
westerns, sci-fi, real-life politics, melodrama, James Bond,
cyberpunk, Hollywood action movies, postmodernism, etc...
pretty unique, feels too distinctly Japanese to compare to
all the Western media Kojima took so many ideas from, and
there's too much Western influence for it to feel like many
animes, mangas, Japanese games, etc.

He took a lot from Escape from New York... Kurt Russell and
and Lee Van Cleef basically ARE Solid Snake and Revolver
Ocelot. Apparently Children of Men greatly influenced the
"war zone" feel in MGS4's first chapter. I dunno. They're
only similar in small ways.

Have you ever played Hideo Kojima's Snatcher? Cyberpunk
adventure game that takes place in the same universe as
Metal Gear.

the ico series is amazingly cinematic... have any of you
dudes seen the project trico video? it wouldn't translate well into tv
or movie, but games like SotC and this new one are like
tapping into ancient oneiroscapes.... spellbinding.

hm even if you don't want big monster robots, you should
still check out the classic Neon Genesis Evangelion series.
If you can handle the whiny twat of main character. There
are kind of discrete 'missions' in there, and some proper
character developments and stuff. Plus humor. In fact, it's
much better than MGS, epic awesomeness. And you get to talk
about it with nerdy girls, they seem to like it.

i believe that "trico" trailer is a fan made fake...

I'd suggest the X-files and Lost (although I've never
watched it)

The ghost in the shell movies remind me of MGS. The first
one is great, but just the beginning of the story, then the
2nd tries to expand and gets convoluted and kinda stinks

Fabled Enemies !

It's a conspiracy movie, but they all watch like Metal Gear.
All those CIA cover up documentaries are great for that
metal gear-ish tone.

The latest Trico teaser is definitely NOT a fan made fake.
What moron would think that was fake?
