this choon deserves a thread.i've been playing it all month..thanks to
jivverdicker for linking up this beauty. the album is great,
but 'my girls' wins it all.

it's the best song on the album, and only two or three songs
come close the quality of it (in the flowers and
brothersport). the rest of the songs on the album are pretty
mediocre imo. don't get me wrong, i think merriweather post
pavillion is a good album, but definitely not album of the
year material.

i'm a minority though. most people seem to love it.

*shrugs*

It's kind of long and makes me want to stop and play Your
Love instead.

Still think its among the weakest on the otherwise terrific
album. The final part just has no proper 'punch' to make it
click. But I have a lot of time for these guys, they're far
and away my favourite CURRENT band.

i hate the new album, it's so fucking shit compared to
everything they've done in the past. it's boring and mundane
and the tunes have no strength to them.

sorry :(

Someone sent me that track a while ago. I thought it kind of
sucked. The vocals sounded almost like Tom DeLonge of Blink
182/Angels and Airwaves. Normally the guy who sent it to me
has good taste in music, so I listened again. Then I said,
"this isn't Animal Collective, is it?" because the mp3 was
just called My Girls, with no artist name listed. After
discovering it was indeed Animal Collective, I listened a
third time and suddenly loved it. That kind of fucked me up.
Learning I have such strong biases when it comes to music. I
like to think I judge music based on the music alone. But I
guess that's not always the case.

i love that attitude. a lot of their other releases stink
like shit.

to each his own...... cunt.

also, what i meant is how people got into mpp like they are
new or something.

offline jules from United States on 2009-03-25 12:16 [#02282011]
Points: 754 Status: Lurker

maybe mpp was new to them. not everyone can start listening
to bands at the very first album and follow their entire
career and love everything. you are probably so cool you are
into bands that dont even exist yet. good for you.

dont call me a cunt either, thats just rude and uncalled
for.

i don't think i'm cool. it just sucks when something you've
held close to you for a long time is now all of the sudden
the hip new thing to a bunch of hipster dumbasses...... i'm
just bitter.

also, informing yourself isn't that hard.

offline jules from United States on 2009-03-25 13:34 [#02282041]

well most good bands get noticed at some point. maybe you
can start a band and only play music that 3 people will like
and make them feel super cool. like they are not cool enough
to listen to your band but do so anyway because they really
are that cool.

i think mpp blew up because it is more listenable to
anything they have done yet. if people get into them because
of mpp and then rediscover their back catalogue and enjoy
that as well, well then i think thats great.

and i am informed. informed enough to know that im telling a
little kid how to think in his bedroom of his mommies house
in front of the computer they bought him to go to college
with where he tells people how original he is in between
bouts of furious masturbation to pictures of panda bear
rubbing a roland sampler all over his strawberry jam covered
ass. but hey, keep expressing yourself through other
people's art.

fuck you cocksucker, anyone who intruduces me to a great
band i love them. and now i love AC.

it's a reasonable question though: why is listening to a
band seen as a badge of honor that's somehow tarnished when
other people listen and enjoy after having missed out the
first or second or third time around?

doesn't that attitude seem...just a little...juvenile?

Shame.. it was a great show. Although there were far too
many people in there, it was hard to really get physical to
the more dancey songs, Summertime Clothes, the extended
version of Fireworks (which was phenomenal) or Brother
Sport. Leaf House was also great to hear live.

have you downloaded any shows? there are many to choose
from.

but of course being there in person is something else
entirely. i've never seen anyone else like them, it's a
sensory overload.

better yet, two tunes from a bbc session, check especially

i don't think i'm cool. it just sucks when something
you've
held close to you for a long time is now all of the sudden

I feel your pain, trust me.. we've all been there. The
folks that would act like the voice of reason and say "Why
are you upset that more people are enjoying the music you
love" etc etc. used to get my panties in a serious wad.
But really dude, life's too short to worry about this kinda
shit, because at the end of the day I had to be honest with
myself and come to terms with the fact that no one really
gives a fuck about how progressive my tastes are/were or
what bands I liked before they got popular. If anything,
take comfort from the fact that when the aforementioned
hipster scum starts namedropping your band you can talk way
more intelligently about them. Over time, the minutiae will
dissipate.

All that being said, I'm sick of hearing everybody and
his/her dog fawning over Animal Collective too. And yes, I
love the song My Girls.. dammit!

bonefish

a stranger found it and shared it with some people.
supposedly they found it serendipitously but that sounds a
little suspicious.
