what happened to the Dance scene
"I'm into Dance music mate"
you know a bit of reggae, house, rap, drum and bass, garage,
whatever, electronics, raving, some used to call it 'black'
music
Don't get me started on the MOBO's - how the hell is that
good, music of black origin, what about the MOWO's, would
that be allowed, or "i'm not black or white, I'm BROWN, from
the boogie down, productions of course, i'm musically
thumpin, others think they're that but they're nothing"

i'm not saying there aint tons of brilliant music but every
festival just seems to be foxshit at representing any kind
of quality cohesive funky movement, e.g. as opposed to
indie/rock kids, and so many of the people that play are
mates of the agent or promoter, hardly anyone actually good,
even if they are they are lumped in with a load of turd,
there is hardly any feeling or soul to it, you go to it to
hang out and have fun fair enough, but there are nly ever 1
or 2 people who move you, especially trying to dance in a
muddy tent where there is no elbow room or two much,

the big chill, classic example of basically a failed writer,
ie journalist, rinsing money from various grants agencies,
putting on a fest and only asking people he can con to do it
dirt cheap coz he claims its for charity

criminal justice bill, laws, whatever totally destroyed the
ethos of Sunrise, Energy, Raindance, or Soul Weekenders
before them. Big brother, The man, really does have us under
control and we flock to these things and get fooled they are
great coz its all were allowed to do these days

but do i really mean this? irrelevant, it's a point of view

I like beats, I like bass, I like dancing and dreaming and
fun, somebody help me out

glade can suck my shrivelled dried up empty excuse for a
scrotum, people might as well bring their own instruments
and have a massive jam session it would be tons better. you
read it here first

meaning no disrespect to anyone in the lineup mentioned
above of course, in fact some of them are among the
brightest talents of their generation, it's just that
generation by the looks of it seems aged 35-50

save the children!

to a certain extent i agree however glade festival has still
managed to maintain its "underground" feel without the need
for any kind of commercial input or sponsorship.

Until the day Tiesto plays i will continue going

offline diamondtron on 2009-07-09 01:12 [#02305080]
Points: 1138 Status: Lurker

people will keep going but they agree with me to a certain
extent, i.e. my point proved?
i have been to glade, i had a good time, but would have been
better if it had been a 2 hour concert by one act and the
rest of the time camping/dossing/ghettoblasters
you need an ethos and taste in music to put on a good
musical event. nobody who puts on events are very interested
or wise to music of any kind, only the mechanics of gigs.
agents included. journalists included. 99% of the time
anyway

Glade is glade, the punters know they will be in for a great
time, as i do every year i go. Its about the experience not
the lineup, glade know how to put on a great weekend,

Personally i feel from a line up point of view this year is
one of the weakest compared to previous years, but if you
are attending to have fun and get smashed for 3 days
straight, who cares really about the line up. Its the fun
part that counts.

going again this year, been every year so far....is that 6
or 7 now? i can't remember.

new venue this year though, so i guess i'll feel like a
glade newb all over again.

as for the line up....the last 3 years i've stopped even
looking at the line up and trying to see certain ppl, i just
like to wander now and see what i come across. makes for a
much more relaxed festival and means i find new acts i
didn't know of before that turn out to be really awesome.
unless say, aphex was playing again....i'd make time for
that! but alas, he's not. i'll probably make time for
underworld though.

The first glade I went to in 2006 was brilliant, really dark
and dirty techno and d&b, nice electronic, interesting
ambient music in the dome thingy and a good atmosphere all
round. the year after was a mud shit, then the year after
was the worst ever, why? because the music got worse, too
much dubstep and it wasn't even like it was good dubstep .
the only act i really enjoyed in 07 was daddy freddy i
couldn't even hear autechre because they turned the sound
right down.

I found that the noise issue ruined the festival, why bother
going back to the same location where the residents
complain? why not find somewhere more isolated and have no
sound restrictions?

I'm afraid I won't go to another Glade, unless they change
location, or unless I get trading again, i was thinking to
sell hot chocolate, what do you think?

hot chocolate with marshmallows , squirty cream, or a flake.
also white hot chocolate.. good idea? could sell some little
cakes too, like choc walnut brownies mmm fuck waffles

i had a jolly good time too. as usual i mostly have no idea
who i saw, i just went where my ears and dancing feet took
me.

i've been every year so far but i think next year may be the
first one i miss. i just can't hack 3 days of drug abuse
anymore, i'm getting old (32) 8(. i completely skipped the
sunday this year....spent it sleeping for like 17 hours or
so....i was designated driver.

on the plus side i was so completely straight on the monday
morning that i managed to fold away my pop-up tent first
time! last year it took me an hour or more and eventually i
admitted defeat and someone else kindly did it for me.

i thought the new venue was good.....i suspect the old venue
wouldn't have handled the rain as well as the new place did.
the only downside was that id spiral is no longer set away
from the other stages which kinda ruined it's ambience when
they were playing the softly softly type
stuff......incidentally, did you guys hear them playing june
9th at id spiral? i was kinda worried for a few minutes as i
thought it might be a secret boc gig, but it was just a dj
playing a boc track.
