yes, it's true. in the sense of what punk is as a
movement. punk music was initially designed to go outside
the boundaries of how music was supposed to be. smae goes
for IDM. it goes outside the lines of your traditional
electronic music. just like your average rock-n-roller
'unlikes' punk because it does not make sens to him how the
songs work same thing goes for your traditional synthetic
music aficianado they do not understand how you can put
together a song like "VENTOLIN" for example and still call
that GOOD music. that's what drew me to IDM in the first
place. it's like the guys in those old skool punk bands
back in the day were like fuck the traditional the same
thing i think applies to the new synthetic music makers they
say fuck the rules.

I can understand how many people appreeciate the idea behind
punk, but how can you like the music because of that? I
don't really understand that...

the energy i guess and the lyrics. granted i know not all
of the lyrics are brilliant but when they do have meaning
and the music along with it really gets into your head about
taking action against wrongs we have suffered.

said "punk sucks" that's nothing against you or anyone whos
likes punk... it's just my opinion...

Beatles= Punk, Stones= Punk, Who=Punk, Aphex=Punk, idiot
garage band down the street from me= punk, Mozart= punk...
you can stretch the definition any way you want. Doesn't
change the fact that punk music sucks.

(disclaimer, this post was ''in my opinion'', that's
important...)

you like what you like... it doesn't matter what others
think... God knows that most people would laugh at me for
some of the stuff I love... I'm currently listening to some
Phil Collins solo, and Phil Collins Genesis pop music now,
so you can see my point... :)

I like it, and if no one else does, well it's fine with
me...

hey man, i'm one of the most laid back people you will meet.
because of my wide variety in the listening pool i don't
ever feel like i need to knock something just because it's
not my taste as well. i can dig it if you can. i don't
feel my opinion matters much most of the time so i have
learned to control my outburst and wisely choose my battles,
only if i have done my homework. otherwise i don't want to
end up sounding like an ass by stating anything that i don't
know 100% about. i would rather not hear anyone say "i hate
____" because then that hate is returned to you tenfold.
i'm smart enough not to mess with the cosmic powers of
KARMA!

in my class, pop culture, we studied punk music.
and idm/experimental electronic music does contain some
aspects of punk music.

yeah...though im not really a fan of punk rock...'idm' does
draw a lot of parallels...i guess its sort of like the new
punk..since punk rock has been watered down and comodified
in the form of a lot of 'alternative' music...
i guess you can say hip hop was the punk of the late 80's
and early 90's...but it has seen the same fate...watered
down into an easily digestable product

if you think of it...real punk, hip hop and 'idm'
all have had the same ideas...they all sort of redefine the
idea of being a musician, defy convention, have a diy
aesthetic, have a small, dedicated following....hmm...its
just a matter of time before idm becomes the next big
thing...and is snatched up by the music industry to be
watered down to be sold the hot new 'edgy' music...

right on ophecks!

its true.. just cus a kind of music is new or different
doesn't neccessarily mean its good
i personally hate punk (at least the punk that IVE heard)..
its so boring and simple and.. well, STUPID
it really is
the lyrics are about nothing
its nothing but power chords over and over again
the music is about nothing other than jumping around smashin
stuff cus ur mad.. mad at.. well, ull find SOMETHING, damn
it! :)

.. or somethign like that
at least thats the punk music IVE heard..

btw: IMHO!

""Punk rock" sucks" topic in the 75-100 range that i feel

"punk is about class war. the struggle between the lower
class and the upper class. maybe that's why so many of you
on here hate it becuase you have a silver fuckin' spoon up
your fuckin' panzy asses. and maybe thats why it seems to
have so much more meaning to us here in north america
because there is a bigger gap between the have and the have
nots. all you fuckin' lil rich kids with all your lil
fuckin' techno fuckin' gear. no wonder you have no interest

in punk because it doesn't stir up feelings inside of you.
what do you have to be upset about you go to a perfectly
good school and work at a normal job to lead your normal lil
fuckin' lives. just as long as the queen (RxIxPx) doesn't
take away your right to d/l along with all the other fuckin'
freedoms she's done away with (i.e. your fuckin' privacy
man) you will be happy! that's why you guys lost the fuckin'
colonies 'cause you're a bunce of fuckin' sissy la-la's.
over here, we actually stand up to injustices.
and that is why punk connects to me and maybe not so much or
at all for you. "

third world countries and ignore that shit. like they do in
canada. maybe that's why the US gets involved in so much
shit becuase they have their hand in everything going on
around the world. just becuase i live in the US doesn't
mean i want to or plan on living here much longer. i do
admit that was ignorant on my part to bring up anything

LOL

u obviously have no idea what u r talking about.. u seem
very ignorant of what is going on in the world..

who do you think is doing the "raping" of third world
countries!?!
THE
UNITED
STATES
OF
AMERICA
its government and its huge corporations that practically
run the world

exploiting poor people there to make ur running shoes,
exploiting their natural resources to make the paper ur
money is printed on
please, america is not some savior fighting to free the
third world..

shit u are SO ignorant, its insulting

how do people in canada "turn the other cheek" to the
problems in the world?!?
wtf is THAT supposed to mean?!??

ur government is the most capitalist one on earth
u dont even pay for wellfare or healthcare for people who
cant afford it in the US
dont give me bullshit about how the US is fighting for poor
people
it is perhaps the LEAST socialist, MOST capitalist country
in the world

ur so ignorant its not even funny.. i just wish more people
were online cus i know they would have something to say
about this..

but please, if u actually have ANY sort of reasonable
argument to back up ur ignorant claims, feel free to share

especially on ur comment on how canadians dont care about
hte third world
imean, wtf is that supposed to mean?!
how DONT we!?
and, more importantly, how do we care any less than
americans?

between punkers and their overwhelming support for the govt.
i don't know about?! why did you have to get personal?! i
don't own any running shoes. do you? did i ever say 'we'

other countries and i never said i agreed with it. guess
what? i don't have a fucking penny to my mother fucking
name. i couch surf. exactly, that's why i'd rather not
partake in this counties exploitations. i'm fighting my own
battle, in any small way i can, against the supressive acts
the USA perpatrates against third world nations. what does
canada do for the free world? that's what i mean. my
govt.?! like i fuckin' created this shit?! what bullshit
are you refering to about USA fighting for poor people?! i
receive wellfare and free healthcare. fuck dude, yeah this

well communism did for the former soviet union and how well
it's doing for cuba now.

I think there are definitely some parallels between punk an
idm, but they are obviously not equal to eachother. i see
where you're coming from anyhow evol.

ophecks, i understand how leaving the u.s. would allow me to
keep my money out of the hands of that top on percent where
a lot of "evil" is goin on, but how much of a difference
would that make? every bit counts, i know, but wouldn't
leaving the states just be ignoring the problem? as little
as my influence here may be, it's probably stronger than the
withdrawl of my money and labor from the american economy.
i don't run from my problems in my personal life and i'm
sure as hell not going to to do it on the social scale.

um...i think what i meant at the time i typed that
was....canada just kinda mooches off of the fact that they
are the USA's nieghbors. so they never really have to get
involved with affairs outside of their own nation state.
they just kinda kick back and let the goods come to them.
so, since there is a middle man between them and the other
countries that produce these goods they don't see the need
to assist the USA in it's efforts of securing the status of
their superiority here in norh america. and that maybe why
the govt. over there in canada has the time to work on deals
like healthcare and such that benefit their own citizens...
