So: (+1, +1, +1) + (0, 0, 0) + (-1, -1) = (+1)
(0, 0, 0) + (-1, -1) + (-1, 0, 0) = (-1, -1, -1)
(+1, +1) + (0, 0, 0, 0, 0) + (-1, -1) = none.
Thats not completely right, I feel like I understand, but I can't put it into words.

If | means add + means 1, triangle means -1, and o means 0 (or nothing), then:
3 + 0 and 0 + -2 equals 1 + nothing
0 + -2 and 0 + -1 equals 0 + -3
2 + 0 and 0 + -2 equals 0+0
??????
The only problem is that there is no reason to believe that the third group of shapes is supposed to be the sum of the first two.

Ok, I understand what you did there and I guess that could be the reasoning behind it. It seems dumb that 'nothing' can be represented by either o or blankness, and in that case the 'correct' answer could be any number of o's or just a blank line. Plus... you're just supposed to plug in arbitrary numbers for all the symbols? (and in like 3 minutes time limit I think per question no less).. I mean maybe 'triangle' is supposed to equal the number 3,867,321, etc. Stupid mensa shitheads.

instead of trying to find the correct answer, you can eliminate the incorrect ones.
in the provided examples, plus always appears left of the bar, triangle to the right. in the eight provided choice solutions, only #2 satisfies these constraints.

Well first you have to understand what the problem is asking. In these types of IQ tests, they want you to decide what figure should be in the place of the "-". That took me a while to find out. I was first trying to do some kind of geometric canceling out thing in my head, which was totally wrong. The first thing that I notice about the problem is that the center object is unique from the others in that it mixes types on the right side of the | . Also in the answers, how is 1 different from 5? how is 3 different from 7?
I think that this is just a fucking scam, it doesn't make any sense and any search for bergman iq test just brings up downloads for windows exes that probably contain malware. Its really dumb.

lol, 1 and 5 are the same. I wouldn't be surprised if the correct answer was 5 and not 1. Yeah, they're probably just a bunch of dicks that made up an 'official' test to charge people to take. And swift jams found a pattern that makes it 'correct' in a different way; why should that pattern not be considered right vs. another pattern. shittitsLAZY_TITLE
