yeah but they don't know that cause they didn't read all the information in the report , they just assumed cause they only got to the end of the first chapter that everyone else does the same and went to the off license for a 4 pack of larger.

that's why libraries are such a good invention...
i mean, sure, it's good to own some essential books that you really love or need, but for the rest, there's the public catalogue that everybody can use. It's a great thing!

i believe it
probably because people usually buy books on reccomendation instead of seeking them out on their own and trying a bunch out. i went through page 1 of neuromancer all the way to the end like a cruise missile,, where as in those Kovacs novels and Snow Crash it took me a little bit longer. "altered carbon" i didn't even finish, that book was just so boring. every sentence just so BORING
tons of people reccomended me books by neale donald walsch over 2007-2008 and i hated that stuff. good message but pretty poorly written, i couldnt relate to it. then i got into u.g. krishnamurti and not only is that stuff freely availible but it's a lot better in my opinion....

It sounds like bullshit statistic. They probably count the first chapter as some sort of average percantage of the book, and count dictionaries, encyclopedias and other refference books as well.

Perhaps that is true. I just glanced at my shelves, and i could only spot 3 books that i had not read from cover to cover. Ofcourse there was only 5 to begin with.

I have a fair few books on my shelves I haven't read. I'd say of all the books I've started I've finished about... 70%? I'm well pleased with myself for having finished Iain Banks' The Crow Road after buying it like six years ago, and ending up reading it over a mate's house.
I'd say I only paid for about 10% of the last 20 books I've read too
