(If you don't like internet memes, don't bother)
Dear reader, you could participate in the birth of mythology.
If you've ever felt the need of a definition of the hyperreal this.is.it.

This is so weird I really don't know where to begin.
To provide you with some context, you should watch this, first of all. This is from a fellow calling himself Kajetokun, and it's called:

  9000!! NINE THOUSAAAAANDD!
Now apparantly a 15 year old kid entered Oprah Winfrey's internet board and posted a message, that eventually lead Oprah to bring this up on her show.

This is what she said (I advice you to read the info-note).
It doesn't require alot of thought to realize that once this reaches the internet, it will mutate into something completely different, such as this.

  Myth:
1a. "A traditional story, typically involving supernatural beings or forces or creatures, which embodies and provides an explanation, aetiology, or justification for something such as the early history of a society, a religious belief or ritual, or a natural phenomenon", citing the Westminster Review of 1830 as the first English attestation.[6]
1b. "As a mass noun: such stories collectively or as a genre." (1840)
2a. "A widespread but untrue or erroneous story or belief". (1849)
2b. "A person or thing held in awe or generally referred to with near reverential admiration on the basis of popularly repeated stories (whether real or fictitious)." (1853)
2c. "A popular conception of a person or thing which exaggerates or idealizes the truth." (1928)

  tell world kay?

Contemplate the hyperreal and its intricate mysteries, of course. ;)

This particular internet phenomena tells me so much ("My God, it's full of stars!") of this society we're living in. How about you, glasse?

My point with the topic was (besides being interesting), I find, how truly a myth is born. It began with a silly little video that in itself is based on a series, that lead to a kid to post on a web forum, inspired by another internet meme, that Oprah took for granted and felt compelled to spread via the media, and bingo! Dino DNA! A myth is born! The wheel just keeps on turning!

The bitter irony of it all is how Oprah (just) spreads this news out, without any other source other than a post on a message board, and adds to the story, as well, to make it all more substantial. It's creatio ex nihilo, and it's hilarious. Everytime I read the news paper, I'm reminded of how we humans create our own weird little mental reality that we all seem to inhabit (apart from the very wise), and how we feel inclined to tell everyone about it (we call it culture). Ah well, enough postmodernism for me. And with that, I'm off!

hehehe, funny thing and i think youre onto something, acidous aphex. but i think that this phenomenon is not as widespread as it once was. the media of course will always fall into these traps. they are there to entertain.

i hope i can trust my feeling that this is not the way science works :)
what i really would like to witness is the birth of a new religion or even better find out how the major religions we know today evolved.

It is great for a day out, it's a bizarre place! The town centre is this architectural shit hole and the sea front is just the tackiest dump. There's pretty much nothing going on outside of karaoke nights and arcades, the single screen cinema stinks of piss and everything grinds to a halt in October. I should hate it here but I only have to walk 20 seconds from my front door to be at the top of the cliffs above the beach and that is just fantastic.

As an outsider it didn't seem tacky at all, just an honest seaside town making the best of itself. If there was a Harvey Nichols and 40 starbucks on the sea front it'd be far worse. The grass is greener etc. It's on the list to go back when we next get a free weekend.
