fan translation is almost out.!!
It's being done by a guy who has done pro translations for
Nintendo... This game looks bad-arse.
Thoughts?

I can't wait, but it's a shame it had to come to this at
all. Nintendo is so weak.

I've been enjoying the awesome soundtrack for a couple of
years, about time I put some scenes to the tunes. And it
looks like whoever did the translation is on the money.

This is great news! I guess Nintendo figured the GBA RPG
market was already over-saturated, plus they had DS right
around the corner.. Still, this isn't your average JRPG
clone, it's earthbound for Pete's sake.

And i agree with Ophecks. The translation seems ace! That
humor is a key point in those games.

It's really really good. The humor is so unique. It also
gets some extra flavor, because i was adolescent enough to
name the characters "dickface" and "nigger" etc.

I've had it patched for days and I'm afraid to play it for
some reason. I keep putting it off, it's, like,
intimidating.

I think I'm going to buy this when it's ready.. I still have the huge guide that came with
the original (though no cart), and the scratch-n-sniff cards
that once smelled like shit and garbage. ''This Game
Stinks'', worst marketing ever.

The game is beautiful, chapter 1 is very sad. The start of
Chapter 2 is disturbing.

Honestly, this fan localization is probably better than what
Nintendo would have done anyway. I wonder how they would
have censored the Magypsies.

A little grinding tip for you all:

The spacebar is really usefull if you're using
VisualBoyAdvance as the emulator. It speeds everything up.

Find a hot bath, and just run back and forth to mobs. When
in battle, just hold down both the space bar and X. I rose 4
lvls in 10 minutes this way.

Any suggestions for the best places to grind? I spent a lot
of time on the snowy mountain, those Tenyetis (LOL) and
Chilly Dogs (LOL) gave out loads of XP. But I can't seem to
go back there now.

Chapter 7 feels as long as the first 6 chapters combined.

You just mentioned the place where i figured it out!

And yeah, chapter 7 is frigging long. I've only now reached
the volcano.

So far it's been one of the most enjoyable game experiences
i've ever had the pleasure of having.

PERFECT 10

I just passed the part where you're tripping balls on the
island. Probably the darkest part of the series.

''Everyone is waiting for you. Waiting to hit you with rocks
and spit
on you. Who's everyone? Everyone you love.''

OK, here are some thoughts, ill try my best to keep it
spoiler free. It's the best game i've played in ages. I
don't even want to compare it to anything. Despite the fact
that i had dubbed the characteres ridicolous names, and the
graphics are cutesy, the whole ordeal was the perfect
combination of being funny, weird and touching.

My mother is ill at the moment, so i've been thinking a lot
about death lately, and this fucked up japanese game got to
my heart like nothing else, at just the right moment.

So yeah, 10/10. I wouldnt change anything about it if i
could. It's THAT good!

I just beat it, I've never played a better game, and my
tearducts were kind of active during the finale. At first I
wasn't too excited about the repeated environments in the
first few chapters... I wanted to see other places, like in
Mother 2 where you're constantly traveling to a string of
new towns. But the structure of the story required the
smaller scale and the familiarity, it works so well.

Did you take a look at the Battle Memory item? It's so zany.
My favorite enemy was almost certainly the Frightbots, their
stories were pants-wettingly scary.

what i'm talking about. But some of it was so surprising and
brilliant!

Easily the best role playing game I ever played. More
enjoyable then Final Fantasy 3 (or 6 whatever its called
now) and better then Final Fantasy 7.

One of the greatest games of all time.

I just beat it, totally balled my eyes out towards the end.

"I've never played a better game"

The diversity of video games makes it hard for me to say
that, but it is easily one of the greatest games ever made.

10 out of 10 for sure, no doubts at all.

The fan dub is excellent.

I finally beat this game ^_^

wow, what a gem indeed.

It's one of the best RPG's I've ever played, 2D or 3D.
Amongst 2D RPG's, it's up there with Crono Trigger and Final
Fantasy VI. In its own class it's almost faultless.

everything from the story to the characters, the battle
mechanic and the journey through different environments was
honed to perfection. The incidental humour and quirkiness of
the game is something to be seen. The boss fights, dungeons
and enemy encounters were swift, fun and sometimes brutal.
There was never a moment in the game when I felt cheated by
the A.I. or by design choices.

The only minus is the childishness of the story, but even
there I admit I was moved by the ending.

Overall, anybody who cares an inkling about 2D Japanese role
playing games owes it to himself to play this game. It's
that good. It never gets boring, and manages to surprise you
all the way to the end. They had tons of ideas, and they
executed ALL of them! Just about perfect.

10/10, A+, five stars

that's how I played it too :)

works like a charm.

I used gba exploder in NOR mode, but normal mode works just
as fine. NOR is nice, because it cuts down loading times
(i.e. uploading times) to zero.
