I know a girl who absolutely adores Autechre, and to a slightly lesser extent, Richard Devine. I don't see what's so inherently "masculine" about Autechre's music. When you've got a rock band with the sort of choruses a bunch of beer-wielding football fans could shout at a pub - a band with a particular "attitude" and image - then that's one thing, but Ae are making instrumental music. If there are indeed many more men listening to it (which there probably are), there's probably a better explanation. |
