okay i've been reluctant to bring this up here because
people seem to hate these guys for some reason.

but jesus christ, who here who isn't an elitist prick
absolutely loves this album?

i mean, they did a great job crossing over from being pretty
straight dnb to a full on rock band. sure it's poppy, it's
even a bit gay in parts, but goddamn is it catchy. there
are hooks here that will stick in your head for days.

and they do a great job of getting all sorts of collective
sounds. take the song 'the other side for instance' - it
begins with that wonderful spanish horn and synth solo,
moves into the dnb, then throws some hardcore punk rhythms
in there, and tops it all of with an absolutely brilliant
dubstep breakdown that comes out of nowhere.

all my friends who have seen them live have nothing but
praise - a full band setup, with guitars, basses, horns,
even two drumsets (which they play for pretty much all the
parts, including dnb breaks).

i hope this maybe entices someone on here who had previously
written them off, cuz it's a really fantastic record.

I doubt you will find anyone as all the people I have met
who like their albums are indeed elitest pricks.

I don't like any Pendulum. Can't help it, just does nothing
for me.

part of my loathing of pendulum stems not just from them
being awful but from the fact that they were heavily
championed by that toss pot Zane Lowe.

all pendulum fans should be rounded up, caged and sterilized
with hot tongs. that's not my opinion, it's just objective
fact

The first album - yeah, dug it for a while, especially the
title track which I still like. In fact most of my friends
liked it too and they're probably more elitist than me as
I'm the only IDM'er in a bunch of Andy Whitby stomping
hardcore muppets. I thought 'Granite' was okay but the
subsequent singles put me off even listening to the new
album. Glam rock for the noughties, not a bad description

A lot of my friends disappeared off to university and came
back claiming to be "into drum n bass" and thought pendulum
were great.
Obviously any mention of any decent dnb was met with blank
stares.
like this, this, this and
this.

finally!

from one of those other threads: "DnB for people without
subwoofers."

ceri is sooooo wrong about that, in silico has absolutely
sublime subbass. some of the big drops are just
brainmeltingly heavy.
