Looks great. Lots of emphasis on Co-Op play which I like.

Wiki

Anyone else looking forward to this?

Looking forward to the PS3 version.

Next year some time apparently. I suppose it depends on the
reception it gets on the 360 and PC though.

I love co-op multiplayer, so I probably owe it to myself to
check this game out when it's released. Been following it
off and on for the past year.

I'm also looking forward to the next iteration of They
Hunger, which is basically like Left4Dead for the the
single-player FPS fans.

demo's up on the xbox live marketplace. it's pretty fucking
good.

sorry to tell you this, but it's never gonna be out on ps3,
it's been confirmed by Valve's big boss a couple of days
ago.

downloading the demo for PC now. If it's good I'll
pre-purchase to save 5 bucks on steam.

Fantastic game. I loved the demo, such incredible fun online
even with complete strangers. When you're playing this with
friends, it could well be the best thing ever.

demo is alright

graphics are suprisingly bad for a valve game

it's the HL2 engine. I'm sorry, I just can't shake the
feeling that this should be a mod, not a full $50 game.

Its a multiplayer zombie game. I don't care if it looks like
halflife 1. They would have to screw it up really bad to not
get it right.

The game is too fast to worry about graphics. When 50
zombies jump out from a garage, the last thing i'm worrying
about is the texture size and how nice the anistropic
filtering is.

haha... well said.

it's good fun and i look forward to purchasing it at the end
of the month.

like you said, if you play with a few mates this is the best
thing ever. it's still fun with people you don't know but
what i've found is they like to run around setting the car
alarms off. my friends are far to clever to do that kinda
shit.

L4D is a pretty fun 'doom style' (tons of enemies)
shoot-fest, but there doesn't seem to be much in the way of
interesting tricks or twists in the gameplay. It's just
"pick up gun", "shoot zombie", rinse+repeat. I mean, TF2 has
a shit-ton more variety than that, and it's a $20 mod.
That's all I'm saying.

Honestly, this is the first instances I have seen survival
horror done well in multiplayer. Its quite innovating how
they have done it, even though the actual shooting and such
isn't quite new.

offline Brisk from selling smack at the orphanage on 2008-11-14 03:43 [#02252294]

What I love about L4D (and indeed all Valve games) is the
shooting and hitscans feel just right. Shoot someone in the
head and they go down. End of discussion.

I played Far Cry 2 recently and it felt like I had to shoot
them a million times just to injure their leg.

Anyway a few of us played the demo co-op last night on the
hardest difficulty setting and it is an amazing experience.
Absolutely impossible, but fun all the same :)

Downloaded the demo... Co-Op is ok but what I'm more
interested in is the 4v4 humans vs zombies vs. mode.

I'll wait till some reviews come in before I make the purch

God damnit, I hate steam. I pre-ordered, thinking i'd save a
bit of cash from getting it retail. I forgot that the GBP is
as weak as the USD and to make matters worse, the fuckers
taxed me. I ended up paying £37 for a game I could have got
for £25 in a retail box from game.co.uk

I am annoyed, but also quite happy as the game is good.

yeah, from what I've heard, Steam/Valve anally ravages
anyone outside the US. Apparently, the poor Aussies have to
pay $100 USD for games on steam. 100 fucking dollars, for no
retail box/actual cd??

offline CowCudIsATwin on 2008-11-17 10:05 [#02252994]

Played the demo all night Saturday... YES! more intense and
fun than I could have ever imagined. Highly recommend this
game to anyone that's enjoyed playing a FPS or watching a
scary movie. The game has it all, and I've only played to
first 2 areas that are inluded in the demo...

I think steam is or is going to have a special now, Left 4
Dead and all the Half-Life mods together for $99.99 USD

IGN gave L4D a 9.0 rating and editor's choice. I don't doubt
that it's a great game, but I'm going to wait for steam to
put the game on sale, which they always do after a few
months.

I'm desperate to play this but my landlord supplied router
won't let the 360 through wirelessly no matter what we do.
Is there any point in getting it without an internet

well i'm disappointed. It looks like even the vs. mode
requires you to play through the campaign and kill a bunch
of AI zombies. Doubt I'll play this one after all :(

offline Taxidermist from Black Grass on 2008-11-19 01:56 [#02253390]

Um. You could be a zombie in the verses mode, instead of
having to kill them.

yeah but there's no deathmatch or anything... it just
strategically places you throughout the campaign (as 1 of 4
zombie leaders, I gather).

I dunno, lots of people like FPS co-op gameplay but I feel
it's too rushed. I like taking my time in shooter campaigns,
not hurrying to the checkpoint. For real co-op give me a
game like WoW or Diablo 3.

I played the 360 version but the game is too spastic for
30fps and analog sticks, I'll have to wait until I can get a
PC that can run it at 60fps with high detail.

The absolute best part of L4D is the RAGE QUITS.

If you want the most fun from this game, I heartily
recommend waiting for some kid to show up and start mouthing
off "omg noobs!" or "wtf team sux" etc...

Now, depending on the level you're on, wait until you get to
a scene just before a major horde event, flick the switch
and then shoot him in the back of the head. Not only will he
become so mad that he turns into a real-life tank, the horde
will be attracted to him so you can pick them off all in one
place. Of course, don't revive him if he does manage to
survive.

offline Brisk from selling smack at the orphanage on 2008-12-18 03:37 [#02259448]
Points: 4667 Status: Lurker

My favourite RAGE QUIT happened yesterday. One guy came on,
spouting the same usual crap I posted above and of course,
it wasn't long before he died. I asked if he was going to
RAGE QUIT to which he simply replied "no"

5 minutes later, he spawns in a closet and I rescue him.
Immediately afterwards, he screams "NOT BEFORE I KILL YOU
MOTHERFUCKER" and limps after me, firing his uzi at me. Of
course, during this time, I had already accumulated some
fine armory and set him on fire. When he dropped to the
floor, I did the kind thing and put a shotgun to his face.
He left immediately afterwards, but not before calling me a
cunt.

I love this game.

this game is fantastic. i have been playing vs. a lot
lately and getting pretty good as the infected. it reminds
me a little of the splinter cell vs, in that one team has
guns, one doesn't but has special abilities and stealth as
their advantage.

i wasn't sure at first about the vs format, either. the
last game i knew to try spawning a player into a campaign as
a baddie was the original perfect dark, and i didn't think
it worked that well (of course that was split screen, local
play only). it does work rather well in this game and seems
pretty thought out. rather than being tacked on i'd say the
game is designed around it. playing the single player mode
is like playing single player in unreal or star wars
battlefront, it exists but multiplayer is obviously the
focus.

DLC has been confirmed. 21st April. New 'Survival' mode
...like Horde on GOW2 + Nazi Zombies on COD: W@W. Should be
ace. I <3 Horde. Also, Dead Air and Death Toll campaigns in
Versus mode have been confirmed.

Shame about no new campaigns.
