i'm being made redundant by the same company
i'd rather not have to sell my sampler and audio workstation, but yet again it looks like i may have to.
depending on how it goes, i could end up needing to leave Burton-upon-Trent and relocate to Birmingham to stay with my sis and try and get some work.
this is really messing up the plans that i had :(
sorry to have a moan, just needed an outlet

currently i am working two jobs at the same company
1) 9am-5pm Mon-Fri in Licensing, doing general admin and clerical duties
2) Sat-Sun shifts on the call centre, logging fault calls.
the first job i had with them (from 2004-2006) was a remote engineer, fixing systems over WAN and assisting engineers out in the field by telephone.
it's really hitting me hard - i'm trying to get a special someone over here to stay. and doing this involves expensive VISAs, proof of income, etc etc etc :(

that is a good piece of advice :)
unfortunately, since leaving school at 16, every single job interview i've ever been to, i have been turned down for.
the only reason i have gotten these jobs is because i was temping for them and they just kept me on
:(

maybe you should rewrite your cv and reassess your interview technique.

i've done both of those, even had mock interviews.
those who "assess" me say that there's no problem with my CV or interview technique
it's thoroughly depressing :(

they're hardly likely to tell you you have bad interview technique. what do you wear at these interviews, do you lack confidence? they can smell that.
you have to genuinely convince yourself that it doesn't matter whether you get the job or not - then you will relax, and exaggerate everything about yourself without lying.

Barcode i wear a suit, make sure i look smart. yes i do lack confidence, of course (who wouldn't after being turned down for everything) but i do my best not to let that show through. unfortunately when getting a job is important, it's impossible for me to use doublethink on myself :(

Do not come to Birmingham. It's rubbish. Actually it's alright but it appears there's more job applicants then there are jobs.
Good luck!

I've given you a hard time in the past oscillik, but you seem like a nice guy who doesn't have the best of fortune. For what it's worth, here is my advice.
It may seem somewhat weird, but I actually learned all my interview techniques whilst doing my a-levels at school, when they showed us all a video of the best way to present yourself during your interview. I kinda dismissed it as non-sense at the time, as most young people do when they're told to do something, but it actually helped so much.
Simple things like leaning forward when the other person is speaking to show that you are attentive and interested in what they have to say (and lets face it, you quickly learn if you do get the job that most of the interviewers are the most self-absorbed twats anyway), or doing plenty of research into the company beforehand so you know who is who, and their methods of working really do make the world of difference.
Smile; be friendly and confident without being aggressive, but above all else, let them see that the job is a real passion for you (even if it isn't, but thats another trick entirely heh...)
I've had about 9 jobs in my life and never failed a job interview. Admitably, most were whilst at school and/or non-professional, but even when I finished my degree and went for my interview at a professional agency, the principles were the same. Show them you can do good work and that you're a solid, hard working person. Easy!

take it in your stride and keep trying :)
having said that, the last job i applied (internal vacancy) i didnt get; they said i could more than do the job but didnt elabourate enough on one question in the interview. so they couldnt give me the job on merit and failed me on a technicality. so in short interviews suck ass.

he's right, do your research on a company - line up some questions you can throw in that makes it clear you have looked into the companies history, direction, status.
that impresses them, and most people don't bother doing it even if they have good interview technique.
the more research you do the more confidence you will have that you can answer whatever they hit you with, and the more confident you will be that you have the upper hand over the other lame brains they're interviewing.
