Photosynth is here.
It was featured in this popular video a few months back, perhaps you remember it.

No linux version = not a suprise.
Typical of microsoft, way behind the times. This should be done online so is platform independant. And this is why google, et al will "win". Despite the name, cloud computing is not vapour ware.

Or if it does need to do loads of maths, which would cost too much for them to do remotely, why not a cross platform java version? yeah java is a bit slower than a proper compiled version, but surely people run render jobs as a background process while they browse interwebs and whatnot anyway???

hmm i've used the demo a couple of months ago on a PC and it worked fine (xcept for the crappy navigation)
can one upload your own sets yet? if so, i could be arsed to allow internet access to the Vista partition...
would be pretty cool to use with multitouch trackpad...

The navigation might still be a bit crappy and nothing is as seamless as I expected. As for my computer, flash ads give it a hard time so overheating here was no surprise. I shoot straw air into the vents and everything!
You can upload your own sets after creating a Microsoft LIVE account. I am not sure what this means.

Its funny;
When mac doesn't make something work properly on a pc or linux (which they usually don't because they are fascists), everyone just seems to think its justified. "They want to make sure its working properly on the right system and they can't guarantee that with a PC."
When they don't make something linux work properly on a pc or a mac, everyone just seems to think its justified. "Its open source. Eventually someone will port it. Yada yada." (I agree with this reason, so no qq from me here)
When MS don't make something MS work properly on a mac or linux box, everyone screams bloody murder and blames MS for being behind the times.
Right about now, I am neither here nor there about what operating system or computer people use. They are all pretty good for the same things. I just can't stand the hypocrisy in all of it. Its like society bought full stock in the cola cold war and now they everyone needs to polarize their favorite stuff instead of enjoying what it can do for them.

given the nature of this software though -a plug-in for a browser- it really wouldn't have required much extra effort to support either OSs
that being said i kinda agree with you

Personally I think all the companies are jerks. I just want people to give microsoft a bit more credit when they are trying to do something cool, and apple a little less credit when they are obviously being dicks.

No. Thats the thing, people don't actually need to be hypocrites. We have been conditioned to take that for granted, that everyone is going to be hypocritical. It doesn't need to be the way things are.

Everyone I've ever met is a hypocrite. I'm a complete hypocrite. It'd be lovely if it wasn't like that but surely you have double standards and do things that you would verbally condemn.
Actually it wouldn't be lovely, we are humans with faults.

Thats just it. People don't need to be that way, we just expect it. It doesn't make it any more right or wrong really. Its just a way I am trying not to be in my life right now. I don't think I currently have any active double standards, however those things are hard to notice when you are used to living a certain way. I spent so long ego killing when I was a teenager; I don't act or think the same way as other people anymore. Sometimes its hard because I forget that people don't think the way I do. I expect them to come to similar conclusions even though they haven't had the same experiences. Sometimes I try to be more like the people around me. Right now I feel like living as honestly as I can.

Seadragon is in one of the next versions of their Silverlight plugin. But it's not that cool as it once looked. I went to a MS demo a couple of months back and it kind of sucked.
It's all a bit hoaxy/hyped I'm afraid.
