here is a teaser of something i've been working on. not a finished track yet, but figured i'd share. this is a bit lighter fare than some of the dark abstract stuff i was doing.

Beginning kinda hops along like a stumbling pillbug. Sownds quite nice in the middle but maybe over snaring. Actually the end reminds me of a track on pretty hate machine.

i did it in live. the synths were all crystal which is an free vst synth i use a lot. drum patterns i varied, messing with the timing here and there and automating delay. used arpeggiators, chord/pitch etc on the synths and did automations to get the rolls and what not.
vampire bat is a classic track! i think i remember liking the kmfdm one too.

Yeah, I think. CHeezyness + gothiness is a cool combination.

Stick with 4/4 drumming.
Good solid programming goes a long way than trying to be all idm. Those hh... it's like they were at a different tempo, signature our just plain bad programmed, goddamnit billy get with the program.

It's all 4/4, but I sometimes put the hats & etc. on the triplet grid 1/16t or 1/32t. I wanted to see what it would be like to mix a faux dubstep in there. I'll probably straighten them out though, it was a novel experiment but maybe it's just too awkward with this kinda stuff.

Other than HH rolls (like on Heliosphan) they don't seem to sound right to me.

Take a listen to this. This a track I just started, so its really just a couple loops, but again I tried to mess with some syncopation. See if it works a little bit better for something like this.
