oh, and my throat is killing me... feels like I have a
horrible cold. wtf is that about? I figured my body would
be thrilled with all the oxygen and whatnot.

re the throat, you'll spend about a week expelling gunk from
your system, don't worry about it

but well done, congratulations... and keep it up, for your
own sake.

thanks man... not just for me, but for my family. I had to
squash that shit. I saw my wife's father go through cancer,
and if one day my daughter had to do the same because dad
couldn't put down the smokes when he was younger, well, that
would just make me an asshole.

congrats man. keep it up!

smoking is one of the most vile and mind bending things
people do (it's been linked to lung cancer for over 40
years)

It's not really vile, it's lovely. Smoking is a fine human
habit and i would be sad to see it permanantly abolished.
However these days it's not enjoyed but just consumed for
the sake of it, which later becomes an addiction. Lots of
people don't even enjoy it but can't stop smoking. My
philosophy on smoking is that it should be a special
occasion and not something to pass the time/feed addiction.
When i 'stop' smoking i will, instead of buying regular
amounts of tobacco, buy an expensive (£10-not that
expensive when some cost over £20!) and massive cigar once
a month. That way you enjoy it plenty. Resisting your
cravings for a month would make smoking a fine cuban
really nice. The addiction of tobacco is it's
pleasure, in that if you resist it it will pay off in
experience of it's true qualities.

Nah, really, do it for yourself. While that story might be a
good incentive, you need to do it for your own well-being.

I gave up for 3 or 4 months earlier this year, and took it
back up after a terrible break-up, and i've never felt
worse. Not because of the break-up but the smoking.

Don't ever go near them again, it's really not worth it.

The trick is to wean yourself off, not stop dead. Can take
up to two years until you are down to just 1 every couple of
weeks. Suddenly it starts tasting like shit and you don't
even want it any more.

APMI MAX i totaly agree with you, I stopped smoking a year
ago, but every now and again, (perhaps every other month)
I'l buy a cigar and enjoy a nice smoke. the interesting
thing about this, is that i don't feel any addiction
anymore, i can smoke a cigar or if i don't want to, i won't.
it's a choice now, not an ordered brain process.

well done gerbik, youv'e passed the hardest part, it gets so
easy from here, if you find yourself feeling nervous around
other smokers, get some gum. it helped me

Congratulations!

However, I think you'd be better off seeing yourself as a
smoker that doesn't smoke instead of a non-smoker. I think
there's some psychological difference in there, and one that
helps you stay off it. It's what the alcoholics do.

congrats. quitting is hard, but worth it. the only thing i
miss about smoking is the way it legitimises the art of
being idle.

digital cigarettes, anyone?
