so i have no idea how this happened, but firefox has
suddenly decided to start searching using some bullshit
branded verizon/yahoo engine by default. (this is when you
normally type a keyword into the address bar and it takes
you to the "im feeling lucky" result for google.)

but now it just goes to this awful engine full of bullshit
ads. i've checked the setting in about:config and i still
points to google. and the verizon site is not the first
result of google for any of the terms i have searched for.
(rockbox, firefox default search)

oddly enough for more common results it still goes to the
site it should, but i don't like this other engine. any help
anybody?

and btw i was last using the internet at the san jose ca
airport, which is provided for free, and didnt ask me to
change any settings or anything. could they have somehow
unobtrusively snuck in and done this?

Check your “add/remove programs” list in windows. Remove
anything that looks suspicious and that you don't know what
does.

Install and run spybot. Make sure your virus
protection program is running.

Run a full virus scan of your computer.

Run ccleaner (but make sure you remember all your
passwords, etc, if you don't have firefox set to remember
them, because it'll delete the cookies. Run it both for
files/programs and for the registry.

Reboot.

If it's still there, try the firefox support forums.

yeah, um.... i use os x.

so i don't have to/can't do any of that.

i'm prolly just gonna appzap ff, that'll get rid of it for
sure. it's just a pain in the ass to reinstall all my
extensions.

youve asked this numerous times before.

it's because the extensions are near necessary for me now at
this point.
