there's way too much airbrushing in this picture, i'm
feeling very upset.

I kind of like its simplicity, it's not very Melody from
Mars-y but that's probably in its favour, I think the
pictures of the Queen of IDM compliment it nicely, the beat
is ripped off, either knowingly or not off of something and
I can't remember what and it's driving me slightly crazy...
you know when you've just about got it... oh hold on it's
"Gawble Vianag" by The Black Dog, actually they mix quite
well together.

i've never heard any black dog, but i have lots of songs
where i have not-knowingly done that.

for instance this one sounds alot like one of Aphex's Warp
promos-(the one that's 6:17)unknowingly

I really don't like the beat at all, sorry. It just seems to
be made of horrible drum hits with far too much hi-mid. The
melody on the other hand is really fucking clever! The bass
is nice but it's all about the chime/plonk: simple and
evenly balanced
Have you made a longer version of shortcandle for me yet?

i'm into making m own drum sounds by using
noise/sine/triangle waveforms, so that's probably why it
sounds crappy to you, i was trying to be more percussive
with it,

shortcandle was abadoned, i didn't save any of the sounds or
the set, and i don't wanna go and set up all my stuff and
mics in my living room to get that sound

you know i have a question, I am using this
mixer, my laptop running through the 7/8 input, and i'm
using this effects board through the aux
send/return of the mixer, but every time i feed the aux
signal to the 7/8 channel, i can't keep the quality of the
original signal, it's like it changes the equalization and
has this phase problem, but it might be cause i'm only using
the Left(mono) input of the aux return and the Left/mono
output from the Boss Me50

I actually like the beat, there are some nice tricks in
there-- but as a song it's way too long and boring. and the
melody isn't doing much for me.

That is quite nice. Unity but not monotonous, simple but not
too simple. Bass notes could be 2x, maybe even 3x louder on
these cheap speakers anyway. The white noise-ish stuff adds
to it instead of subtracts.

i think the track has potential, you deffenetly need to work
more on the sound, i'm having similar issues with sound, i
think it has to do with which frequencies your using, you
said your making your own drum sounds, that's very good,
maybe you can try layering the drums sounds. i use sound
forge to layer the drum hits, but i try to create a drum kit
which almost fills out the audio frequency spectrum. you
need to analyse the tracks frequencies, then try adding an
instrument that fills a gap to achieve a richer sound. (well
this is theory, i'm currently experimenting with this)

i think my overall sound is weak because i'm somehow routing
the effects box i'm using to the Aux return (mono) and not
stereo, so it creates this wierd phase offset thing that
totall changes the overall sound of everything and the
equaliziation of the drums mostly, it givews it this wierd
ugly tube sound.

iv'e spent ages trying to get a better sound, but you get
there in the end, it's just trial and error, what i do is
record the music and burn it to a cd, then i play it in my
car stereo, if it sounds good in there, it will sound good
in most other stereo equipment. but sometimes i get too much
bass or it sounds flat, just keep doing more mixes.
