If I purchase a legal copy then increase the pitch of the
entire mp3 1 note with audacity, that new higher pitched
version should be my own original work and thus copyright
free. Then I could submit this original work of mine into
the public domain. Then someone who took it from the public
domain could lower the pitch 1 note.

nice idea, but it doesn't quite work like that :-)

If I purchase a legal copy then rip it and split it into
single byte files using a file compression program - no
copyright on a single byte, right - and share these files
publicly....

Sorry, I'm bored...

How about:

I own the copyrights to a catalogue of material, and with
the artists explicit permission, decide to promote it
freely, giving people the opportunity to listen first, and
directing them to where they can purchase or contribute if
they so desire.

:-)

If I purchase a legal copy then record me blowing wind
sounds through a computer microphone and then add a dog bark
to the end of each song and then my fans remove the lone dog
bark but have to go through the ordeal of removing all the
wind through a tedious process of equalization and
compression, it would be my original work.

Sorry as well. I'd listen if it was just a single track
instead of a big torrent. really.

the torrent isnt zipped so you can easily download just
single tracks from it if you so wish.

"...using the pirate bay to spread your stuff is a bit

true - but it's easy enough to nuke the torrent if needs be.
anyways, we're talking about an underground electronica act,
not a corporate pop identity...plus most of the stuff in
there is either completely out-of-print/unreleased, or
easily available on soulseek/waffles/etc.

At least this way, we can tag the tracks with the artists
URL, and put correct details / names.
