search-engines, torrent sites and this site, are illegals. rules.
1. http://www.imdb.com/
i've found this site very useful over the last eight years, and i think they have around a couple of hundred movies in their database now.
2. http://www.discogs.com
it's like imdb, only with vinals instead + gotta know your way around the marketplace.
3. http://www.dagbladet.no
norwegian newspaper, but not on paper. bigger pictures, and now with even more dumbed down stories ++
what are ur's?

Allmusic Great place to learn about and find new music.
Discogs Great place to geek around for hours. "So mr IDM-star released a 7" single on Mongo records before he got signed to Warp? Cool"
Underskog Because it's great fun. And still kinda secret.

That's a tough one...
1. http://rateyourmusic.com
A useful site for anyone with more than an average interest in music and records. I use it a lot as reference in my neverending quest for yet more music.
2. http://www.pitchforkmedia.com
Yes, I admit it... I'm not a fan but what can you do?
3. http://www.dagbladet.no
Same as Presch... gives me my daily dose of the tabloids and nooos. I prefer it over the other big daily paper in norway: www.vg.no

I assume my mail service is also excluded?
1: Dagbladet, Bergens Tidende and Aftenposten.
All main tabloid sources, always entered simultaneously (make a folder on the bookmark-bar in firefox and middle-click to open all pages inside at the same time), so they only count as one.
2: Etymology online.
Damned useful. It's like a dictionary, but with slightly more information which, I find, helps the definitions stick. It could be because they're related to other things besides their own definitions.
3: Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy.
The quality of the entries vary, but it's still a good way of figuring out whether or not a philosopher is worth looking into. At least it beats Wikipedia.

1: BoingBoing - truly a directory of wonderful things. they feature everything from photography and social activism to diy projects and howto guides, nearly every post made on this blog is worth reading.
2: Mac OS X Hints - a great frequently updated compendium of all sorts of little tricks and hacks for os x. any user of mac who halfway knows their way around some software owes themselves a look or three around this site.
3: xkcd, cyanide and happiness, and the now sadly defunct perry bible fellowship - the three best webcomics on the net, hands down. each is supremely worth checking compulsively for new additions (even though they are regularly scheduled, i still do it)
and thanks for that encyclopedia of philosophy, drunkie. i'll be making use of that in the coming days when im trying to bang out my final senior thesis and fucking complete my BA already.

AV Club: A daily dose of pop garbage. I rarely agree with the reviews, most of the articles aren't so great, and I don't care for The Onion, but somehow I keep coming back. Right now they got a series on vintage blues that's worth a look. The user comments are always active and often informative/funny.
Mutant Sounds: Though ncot as great as it once was, I can still spend hours searching through the odd album cover archives. If I like the picture and it's got some user comments, it's usually worth a look. 1/4 great rate so far.
Google News: I'm sure there a better sources, but I can easily pick and choose here and it works well as a homepage.

I was taking both a kant seminar and a class on the philosophy of law, so i decided to try and combine the two. It's essentially reading thru the law texts and seeing which legal systems kant would find to be the most moral. and it's turning out to be a bitch to write.

well its just mostly looking at different aspects, utilitarian vs. retributivism, punishment as punishment or treatment for wrongdoing, acceptance of laws with which you don't agree etc.
its a really awful paper, i pretty much screwed myself on the topic, but ive done so much reading for it and only have like a week and a half to finish it that starting something else would be worse.

It's never too late. If something has popped up during reading that is more interesting, I usually switch to that.
How's the system in USA? You said you're finishing your final senior thesis.. I don't know what a senior thesis would be, but over here, it's normal that people write a sort of bachelor thesis in their last semester on the bachelor.. for every other subject but philosophy, that is. I just wrote two papers each semester, same length and other formal requirements as what seems to be the standard for what the other students call a bachelor thesis. Then, when I had taken enough classes, got enough "points," I had a bachelor. No single paper was important in that "bachelor thesis" kind of way.
I've also heard that the grades differ? We have A, B, C, D, E and F. They used to have numbers (with decimals), but changed to letters to make the system more international. Strange, then, that they seem to have put in another letter, and basically done everything differently except for how they name the degrees...

yeah, senior thesis and bachelor thesis seem to be pretty much the same thing. just my final paper to complete the major.
and yeah, we have all those letters except for e, even though generally anything below a c- (do you have the plus/minus system there?) isn't considered passing, but a d is slightly better for your gpa than an f.
