i mean simply, a service like ebay or paypal needs to have
some kind of revenue to pay for server upkeep, bandwidth
etc. i do think 9 lb is a bit stiff, but freq had said even
50 p would be theft, which is just silly.

now considering my previously stated opinion that music and
media should be freely available to those who want it i'll
say this: the sites which provide those kind of services are
community based - they rely on what minimal (i assume)
donations are given monthly to support bandwidth and server
upkeep costs, and considering the wonderment of torrents,
this is very little bandwidth because the remainder is
supplied by the users themselves. and the artist is still
supported by the true fans.

unfortunately, everything has its price - it just depends on
how many people are willing to pay it and how well
distributed the price is.

well that was an unncesseary rant - i'm really just avoiding
continuing work on the senior thesis.

9 quid payenemy
8 quid feebay
£27.99 post your orifice

near 50 squids to do that deal. the post office aint too
bad tho..
at least they do something.

paypal is automated now. its just a prog that needs a little
electricity i could have done what i did with a quarter of a
AA Duracell battery.

considering it costs money to create credit card
transactions and as anyone who has ever been a webmaster
knows that no matter how well set up a website is it will
always need some kind of upkeep, not it is not just
electricity which you are paying for with services like
paypal - otherwise you could just do it yourself. youve got
a pretty narrow view of how these kinds of things operate.

you actually think its a fair price? who are you?

another one , why is myspace free? is it because they use it
to spy on us?

i was kiddin about the duracell battery!

if you concider the millions of people using paypal right
now. and the billions spent each year through this automated
system.
then look at the total cost of the wages of the one old lady
dusting the servers with an magicduster and the 3 security
men half asleep making sure no one gets in the building. yes
yes the coffee machine. and a few light bulbs and the answer
machine.

you might start to understand my point a little.

i never said you were being fairly charged - in fact, if you
read my first post, i said quite the opposite. but you're
saying these services should be absolutely free, which
really is just an impossibility.

and myspace is not free, in the same sense that over the air
television which you can pick up with rabbit ears is not
free; you are being subjected to adverts constantly, and as
roundabout as it seems, you are paying some small amount of
the fee for the upkeep of myspace or tv each time you
purchase something which you had previously seen advertised.
this is what i mean when i say that it depends on who is
willing to pay and how widely this payment is distributed
amongst the clientele.

i was gonna say all that. ....haha really! well not all of
it, just the advert thing.

even so let em advertise on paypal too things like hotdogs
and milkshakes. ill be fine then.

hey you had a go at me about the tv licence thing too. a few
months back . i remember now. cause i hate the bbc.

i just dont like the mad insane fees. why cant they be co
operative? and love us.....and give us money instead.

yeah the fees are a bitch, but they are also avoidable.
craigslist is a great example of a service similar to ebay
which offers a much more "free" service, as the upkeep of
the servers again rely on donations by members of the
community, as well as not having the legal quibbles of
guaranteeing mediation in the case of the dissatisfaction of
one of the involved parties. essentially, it is a community
driven version of ebay, minus the auction aspect.

Yeah I know what you meant, but your response made it look
as if freqy had said there should be no service charge when
in reality he was complaining about the overly high service
charge.

I've thought about that idea before with robots. Like if all
robots were connected to the same mother brain or something,
they could ALL agree to do one single action together.
Actually if one felt pain they should all feel it since
that's mental too. It would basically be one single being I
guess.
